You can wail on it for 3 1/2 months with a rubber hammer...
Lift the bike up and give it a few good smacks with a brass drift and a heavy steel hammer.

When you are trying to get an axle out and they are seized it can be frustrating, no doubt. If using 'percussion', you need to suport the bike so it doesn't bounce. Try getting the bike up against a wall and blocked up with some timber or something solid. Years ago, when my 501 was nearly new I put a piece of pipe over the frame, suported against a wall and used a sledge hammer to drift the swingarm spindle out. Less than 6 months old at the time!!!!!

When doing this you may need to sacfrfice a nut, belting the end of the axle will deform it and cost more to replace than the nut, and it expands and won't come out anyway. Screw the nut on almost all the way, say 1mm less than seated and belt until seated, back the nut off and go again. As threads become unsupported in the nut it'll compress the nut. Toss the nut whern finished.

I'm aware that others have ended up putting their bike in a press to disassemble.

Support it properly and the energy will go into the axle and not the 'bounce'.

Good luck
Steve

PS, got a shirt yet?

Just be careful putting all the force through the thread ie if possible wind the nut on till it is flush with the end of the axle. There is a really good chance you will shear all the thread off the axle if you belt onto just the nut. The nut is probably made from stronger material than the axle.

I would think the easiest way to do it is to lay the bike horizontal on its side on a concrete floor with a piece of pipe (I'm guessing 1¼ or 1½" water pipe) cut to length over the outside of the axle nut supporting the swingarm on the bottom side resting against a piece of plate on the floor to protect the floor. Chock the bike in this position securely.

Put a lot of plywood and /or rag all over the wheel & swingarm. If you glance a blow, the last you need is to accidently smack the swingarm or break spokes.

Put flat end (grind it flat if you have to- it is fairly important!) steel punch of at least 1" diameter squarely on the top of the axle with the nut wound onto it. Don't hit the end of the axle directly with the hammer - you will likely stuff it. I imagine you will have to belt the punch with a 6 or 8lb sledgehammer. It is probably easier to have someone else hold the punch with a pair of pliers or multigrips and use both of your hands on the hammer.

Clench your butt cheeks & belt it. One good blow will do more than a hundred half-hearted ones. GOOD LUCK!!!
