I wrecked a 01 KTM 400exc and a 04 450sx recently and last week tried the cam in a 03 650 head that that I had sitting around. It looked like the cam would slot straight in if the waterpump drive was lopped off. Any thoughts ?
Regards Dan

It´s the same cam, except from the waterpumpdrivepin.

I use a KTM 613 cam in my Husaberg 650.Much funnier engine after that modification.Lost a little grunt off the bottom, but revs easier.Much better for supermoto,in my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback, don't mean to sound vague here but is the 613 a KTM model or a certain grind. Of my 2 the exc cam looks milder on the ramps, the 450sx has a very steep closing ramp but not quite as bad as the bergs.
Regards Dan

hi i have a hot cam in my 650 its from a ktm 530 grind 1 in the hot cam list i just cut of the water pump shaft smooths out the power nice
cheers matt

The 8/07 is considered to be one of the 'hottest' cam grinds for the KTM RFS engine.

I run a 400EXC cam in my 380. After we took of the water pump shaft it fit right in. REALLY wakes up the bottom with the 380 having the KTM 400 cam instead of the Husaberg 450.

I have checked the cams to some extent but not sure whats best, I have one from a
2000 FC501 with number 55 on the end,
2001 400EXC cannot read numbers,
2004 450SX numbers are 35/02 5521/590
2003 FE400E current cam in the bike 34/01 01
Also have access to a 204 FE650 or 2002 FE501

Abnyone know what these numbers mean or which cam is best for trail riding with good bottom end and mid as well as a healthy top, unforunately once I cut the waterpump drive off they won't be any good for KTMs anymore.

This would be a good question for KTMTalk. There is a really good knowledge base in the RFS forum.

The available factory cams for the KTM RFS engine from mildest to wildest include: 400 EXC, 55/21 ( used in all 450/520/525 EXC's & most SX models), 8/06 (only used in the early 525 SX), 8/33, and 8/07. Note that the 8/33 and 8/07 cams are generally used only in big bore/stroker engines. I don't have the actual part #'s at my finger tips at the moment.

Partnumber for 8/07 cam:SMS.36.010.000

Informed my KTM dealer about the price of that cam:
€ 257.04

A lot of money, would it be worth that on my 550?

edit:
And is the auto decomp (i have new style) a straight fit on a ktm cam?

Here is some info on KTM RFS cam specs - Lift & Duration @ 1mm (0.040")

The figures are arranged in the following order: Grind, Int Lift (mm), Int Lift (inches), Int Duration, Exh Lift (mm), Exh Lift (inches), Exh Duration

55/21 8.59 0.338 214 8.38 0.330 210
8/06 9.19 0.362 237 8.97 0.353 234
8/33 9.17 0.361 258 8.81 0.347 230
8/07 9.45 0.372 258 8.99 0.354 250

regarding the auto decomp, just compare the part# from the part manuals. They should fit if you have the new decomp.

thats good cam info chas, thanks for that.
i suppose we wouldn't know the specs on the 08 cam?its suppose to be fairly good from what i can gather.
i think it was in the doc, that the 53 & 55 cam was the same profile but 1 was slightly more advanced than the other.
my 650 had a 53 cam in from std.
i got a better cam off suttos.it was one of those that had a 9mm lift on intake+ more duration on both.same thing mate, it was ktm cam originally, just cut the end off.certainly gave the 650 more nuts, that was, after it was rejetted.
don't really know if a little 400 would be any good with a bigger cam.
a 53 or 55 would still have to be better than the 01 cam.
..weed..

I already have Taffy's torque cam fitted in my 550, but think i'm gonna give the KTM cam a shot :)
