anybody repaint their frame?

Looking to freshen up my fe570 which has some boot rub on the frame and the engine cases have scuffs too. Wonder if anyone has repainted their frame before and the difficulty involved, what type of paint did you use, and how it held up?

I was thinking of doing the frame in either metallic gray or blue to match the wheels. My biggest concern is not matching the wheels perfect and looking kind of off. I figure I could either clear coat or 3m the sides of the frame to keep the paint looking good.

The other option I have is powder coat, but that is a lot more work and would involve complete disassembly.

Hi there, I would go for the powder coat, I had a few frames done and it kicks *** ! Yes a lot of work but a great durable finish. Frame protectors are an option too.

powder coat only IMHO, or some really tough rubberized epoxy

A complete dissasembly is needed, but that'll take you three hours. A good time to replace any worn bearings as well

If You want to do it right, powder coating is the only way.

Take good care of VIN number while sandblasting the frame and dont forget to reapply the sticker on head of the frame.
I have took paint off chemicaly and then used some derusting chemo.
I have secured all threads with screws, but the guy who was painting the frame told me that better effect is when You leave them empty and rethread after painting.
Make a lot of pictures and number each bolt.
Remove all the grase from head and swingarm and secure places for bearings.
Mine is:
1x ground
1x black
1x clear gloss

Powder coating is good but it still doesn't hold up like bed liner. Not everyone likes the look of bed liner but it holds up great. If you do somehow scratch it, it can easily be touched up with a brush. I spent the money to have a frame powder coated one time and was disappointed with how long it held up. I decided to give bed liner a try and found it was much more durable. The riding I do is in a lot of sand and rocks so a painted frame takes a real beating. I use frame guards to keep from wearing through my boots and pants because bed liner is really tough.

Just some thoughts.
