Hey Boys and esp DaleEo :D
I have just finished up my refresh and since I had the carb off I decided I would check and see what jet are in there. What a shock 8O

Now let me tell you about the bike and where I ride.
05 fe 550 stock pipe
I start at 4000 ft and go to 10000. Bike starts easy choke and some pumps of the throttle but does not idle very well. Runs good when warmed up but plug looks lean. No complaints really except for the start ritual when cold. Choke pump start die. repeat till warm

Jetting is as follows:
182 main
52 idle jet
85 start jet
idle air jet 100
main air jet 200
air screw 1 1/4 turns out
Needle OBDVT 6 down from top

What say you all. I seem to be WAY off from all of you.

Stock jetting with a huge idle jet? Seems like it would be way rich, especially with the clip position.

One thing to bear in mind when you are riding in high altitudes , higher you go in altitude the smaller the the fuel jet needs to be as the air is thinner.
The reason for the 52PJ could be trying to compensate for the needle diameter, the letter T on the needle is the root diameter which in this case is large, and could also account for the bad idle.
The FS PJ PAJ and needle straight are all interacting with each other up until around 1/4 throttle or just over, this where your jetting needs to be more precise.
Try a needle with a smaller root diameter, an S or R. I am running the CVS on clip 3 the same as Dale and a few others on here, and a 40 PJ 1 1/2 out on the PS, but there again I am at sea level and don't get much above 1500 ft in my location, even when I do I can feel the difference in engine response as it starts to run richer, more at 0 to 1/4 throttle where the action becomes a bit snatchy.

Sparks.

i think you need one of my jetting kits at a special bobchillin fantastic price!

can i sponsor you mr bobzilla?

i would say that a 148-155 max MJ, DMS needle on c3, 35PJ, 45PAJ, even the starter jet should be a #80. there's little that's right i'm afraid. oh and forget the plug colour bob, it doesn't mean anything. have a look at a jetting kit bob, i only charge the cost of the parts.

regards

Taffy
