As posted by MD on its Industry News Releases pages, on December 5th, the American Motorcyclist Association sent a message of opposition to a proposed 100% tariff on 50-500cc European motorcycles. The letter, sent to the Department of Commerce and the U.S. Trade representative, warns of serious repercussions to the motorcycle industry as well as the thousands of individuals in the motorcycle community that would be affected by such a tariff.

from a more euro centric view point the intro of a 100% tariff is also likely to have a detrimental effect on the companies.

even though the numbers of euro bikes sold as a % of the total bikes sold in the states is probably very low the US is still the main market for many of the manufactures and as such any drastic drop in US sales is likely to be very bad for them

great, the last time it was banana's

I wonder what pin heads came up with this idea?

"Hey George, them there folks in Europe aint eatin our cows, what should we do?"
"Well Bob, there is a logical explanation, lets ban their motorcycles."
lol :D

I don't get it.

Is this tariff supposed to somehow protect or encourage the US motorcycle industry?

Its the Idea behind it is whats funny not the actual dialog. The concept that to combat tariffs against beef, which is one of our top exports, we decide to propose a tariff against motorcycles, and correct me if I'm wrong, is not a leading export in this country. as far as American motorcycles go, I know most people would by a Japanese bike before an American.
