Today I was riding for the first time new to me '07 550 in supermoto guise. I really like it so far. Engine is freshly rebuild, updates done, dual valve springs, orangeberg mod for weep hole, roller bearings etc. Starts perfect, sounds really good and healthy. My plans are to install two cooling fans, all dc magneto mod, install external spin on oil filter with cooler to cool oil and increase oil capacity. I will be adding a MOTORCOTE OIL ADDITIVE - it is super lube of sorts that I have very good things to say about. I will be installing knobby tires. I have question to Orangeberg, Taffy, Bushy, Dr c and others with experience ; what other recommendations I might want to consider? For example, are you oldtimers still using Dello and Rotella synthetic 15 W 40 with good results? I see Lukas oil 5 w 40 full synthetic that is good for the latest mercedes diesel engine. I am long time car, then truck mechanic and I know that recent diesel engine oils have very high quality to withstand high mechanical pressures. Camshaft lobe pressure in unit injectors especially. There's some really good coolant, what was it called? Can someone make a list or a thread on HOW TO BULLET PROOF PRE '09 HUSABERG? This would be really useful, perhaps make a kit??? What are some power mods on 550? No big bore kit??? Really? Power is like chips, or pistachios more is better, what you have at first is just not satisfying. You get more and THEN you feeling great! Is there a possibility to find or have made a long life piston? Can you bore out liner on 550? 1,2,3 mm? Has anyone ever made a titanium frame? My 550 feels very similar power as my sold already '08 Ktm 450 sxf with Bondi engine but now I have six speeds and it is more special, more rare, that counts for me as well. I will keep for now 525 exc it feels good as well and Ktm was my first passion, some nostalgia remains and they are supposed to be very good engine with lots of mod potential.

Thanks Rainero. I have read some of your posts and I think your avatar is hilarious . My cousin had Husky 450, good things to say about them, reliable, torque, stable, had good amount of engine oil too. Is that engine a bmw or all husky 450, 510?

The sad part is I do look like that!! Just a lot older. Be carful Husaberg's can be addictive. If your a little eccentric and a mechanic you'll love them. Good luck

well ask us again in a lifetime's time?

at a guess I'd say you'll sell it within the year................

Hahhhaaa, whaatt? Don't listen to Negative Nancy here, polska. Jeez.

I am with you, tourist. It seams that I like tinkering with it when its on the stand looking like showroom condition just as much as riding it.

Seriously, these are unique, nice machines. They do have many advantages in design and overall performance. With a few improvements they are simply fantastic and problem free. Beautiful and rare bike with really good performance, what's not to like. I have some interesting plans for it too. Titanium frame, swing arm, forks??? At some point. Exhaust, lithium battery.

Oh come on Taffy! Don't be party pooper. I had only one ride so far and I fixed it once allready. How bad can it be? Ignition module connector slipped out, ha - found it in two minutes. See, told you I'll be ok. I am sure you can help me out with some parts and advice. By the way I saw your ad for '08 Fe 650, o man, major mojo thing. Why are you not over here, I would snatch it in a hurry. Have you ever thought about putting together a kit to BULLET PROOF A berg? Here people like Ford diesel pickup, their engines have problems, so there is nice market for such a kit. Might be good idea....

My Huseys are bulletproof. I use the wrong mains and never have any trouble.

when you're always pissing against the wind it is best to stop pissing.......

Taffy

also, never piss off the back of a moving pickup truck.

because it blows back in your face

All righty then. I have never tried pissing from the moving truck, I admit I am a bit confused by your joke. Was it a joke sir? Or was it a warning to watch out how I deal with Taffy? I must say that so far the only welcoming words came from the tourist. Which is a bit surprising, since I displayed my enthusiasm for new to me bike, I do have plans to go long term here. I also have interesting plans how to make it more reliable. I know what I want, and I am fully capable of doing it alone. I have experience in succeeding alone. I am successful businesses man for many years. Now I found something that I am enjoying and wanted to join like minded group. I don't understand why someone would say that I would be selling my bike within a year???? If anything Taffy should have some encourage for new Berg owner and potential new customer. I was planning to get some parts from him indeed. The only way that I would get rid of my Berg is if it keeps braking down as much as my garbage mercedes diesel. For me if it keeps braking down, its a piece of crap regardless of the emblem, be it mercedes, jaguar or whatever. Let's stay all business here, I don't mean disrespect to anyone and also don't take any from anybody. So does anyone have any answers for my questions in my original post?

Why is everyone against me since I got this bike??? My son had a Honda 250, really liked it but it was piece of crap, braking down and we just had bad experience with it. So for his 16 birthday I helped him out partially and got him to buy '10 Fe 450. Now he was hooked on that for a few years of somewhat hard off reading with no reliability issues, so we both like it. I was expecting him to be excited when I got my Berg. He was trying to get me to buy 70 deg. 570 for years. But he is not. He says it is wrong bike for me. It is almost like he is jealous???? My wife is against it. I was looking for some encouragement here and you sir are saying that I would be selling it within a year??? What gives??? You are dampening my enthusiasm. I said as a joke don't be a party pooper. I was hoping to develop some kind of business relationship here and you are telling me to stop pissing against the wind? I am hoping that it was a joke too. I admit I never understood British jokes. A joke with some mocking in it isn't funny and jokes supposed to be so. Can you please explain why you think that I would be selling my bike? As to pissing against the wind joke I will respond that winds change, sometimes we change the direction of the winds. In the past have been done many times and then I can piss the way I like. That being said I never mean disrespect to anyone and also don't take any from anybody. If you want I would like to stay all business here. The only way that I would be selling my bike sooner than planned is if it keeps braking down. Then I would declare that its a piece of **** and not worthy of a following. No I am not devoted to it at all cost. At this time I think you are wrong, I think that I would keep it for a good while. Engine is freshly rebuild with a few updates allready, sounds really good too. I am planning to add external oil filter /cooler. Add cooling fans. Add oil additive motorkote. This should increase the life of the engine. On top of that I am not riding a lot per year. Dirt trails with knobby tires should be just fine. I don't need extra suspension travel of Fe bike, no big jumps or going over logs for me. Yeah I think I will be good with it. Do you have any answers to my questions in my original post?

To me, Taffy seems be a not very nice person. It's as simple as that.

Don't let him get to you Polska.

Ned's a stand-up guy in my books, for what that's worth. I'm sure this is some kind of misunderstanding too. Guys is this really the spirit we're going for?

Enjoy the bike. And be sure that you are most welcome here and everybody can totally relate to the joy of a new bike. A g.d damn Husaberg too!!

geez! it was an attempt at a humorous observation of a first hand discovery on us highway 442 in florida in 1973. taffy's comment just reminded me of it and i thought i'd pass it on to prevent it happening to you all. so much for public service announcements ;)

Haha! Got it. Group ride to Northwood. Sorry to make more of this, I just got a bit anxious when a newcomer didn't feel welcome.

Now I understand your joke but before I couldn't since I had no idea of the context. No disrespect from both sides and misunderstanding is no more. This should be example how to deal with misunderstandings. I think we are cool here, all civilized all business here.
