been a bit since i posted here but i'll giveya a brief run down.
after xmas my motor failed due to water seal failing. it was then stripped.. new c4 bearings went in and we discovered soo much silicone blockignoil feeds its amazing it didnt blow. it got resurrected and 300 mile later my gearbox gives up. i lost 3rd and 4th and some other bits and drive shaft. they all welded together due to oil starvation.. no doubt down to the silicone issue again. so its being rebuilt by a proper berg mechanic this time with all the right bits. I have a lend of an 04 650 while thats happenign and i have it no longer than 24 hrsand it gives me hassle. did a 20 mile fairly lively run to town and just run out of gas 1/2 from station.. gofill it up and head off. 2 mile up road while comign to a junction it dies as i let off revs. i try and start it and it stutters a bit then fires but only if i keepo throttle fairly well open and when it is going it sounds poor. i get it back to house keeping the revs up all the way. Im thinking that dirt has blocked idle air jet or idle jet. i tear the carb apart last nigt and clean all the jets. put it back togther and its the same.. it will fire buttakes me to keep throttle open a little and then keep revs up once its in life and still sounds terrible.. then dies when revs drop. i put new higher octane fuel in also and have checked all connections. they seem fine. my own is an 03 and i considered maybe the stator had slipped affecting timing but checked this and its different on 04 so that doesnt seem an option. I am now fearing it is a valve issue.. perhaps valves have slipped/lossned/tightened/burnt seats?? i really dunno.. any suggestions? sound similar toanything happen before?

cheers

if in doubt mcmucker always do the cheap stuff first!

have you got another spark plug you can try? did the bike stand still for long? can you pull the tank and check for loose wires and chaffing?

good luck.

update

I got my bike back and put two hours on it. meanwhile the 04 was stripped. Turned out, it dropped an exhaust valve. got away with new spring and valve only.
Put those two hours on my own bike on the first day. I was away for a week and once home i got ready for another go. I let the bike warm, put my gear, head off to the bottom of my street and 100feet later a major rattling noise for a sec then it dies. I am able to cycle kickstart with my hand. GEEEBUS!!
nearly 1000 spent and 2 hrs later this. I reckon problem lies with chain. It was a brand new linkless chain. I think tensioner may have failed and it jumped off guide etc.
I am really hoping to be as lucky with this as the 04 was
will post another update when i find out what the problem/s is/are!

answer to topic question: yes i most certainly am cursed!

Blimey McMucker ...
sorry to hear of your troubles.

I can only wish you well.

Use a magnifying lens to closely inspect the chain. The chain could be that of a split roller / split bushing design which is indeed prone to failure.
