Hey Guys

Here is a good one which has me Husaberged.
2005 FC550 with stock jetting(main 182,idling 40 etc etc as per book)
As far as i know stock is set up for sea level ,the odd thing is that i live and ride in JHB South Africa which is 1500meters above sea level and the bike is perfect.
When i ride Transkei (sea level) bike wont idle ,starts very badly when hot and generally no good.
Are the stock specs for sea level?
can i correct with only needle position changes?
Lastlly, this xmas we are riding, from sea level to a max of 3000meters above sea level(Lesotho land of Roof Of Africa)what can i expect and what jets should i take along?
All previous bikes were 2 stroke and are easy to rejat gauging plug colour etc,This one does not make sense to me ,PLEASE HELP!

rock on ron!

you're hopelessly rich I'm afraid. you'll find that you have the PS adjusted right for your altitude and wrong for sea level. always play with the PS!

i would have thought a 160MJ was enough, lift the needle up 1 maybe 2 clips. 35 pilot jet. PS to suit whatever. also then check your squirt is zero'd i wouldn't have any.

finally I would consider a needle like a DVU that yamaha do. OBDVU.

Thanks Taffy

I think i got all of that, except what is PS?(pump stop?)

Also should i start with a 160mj for the coast?

Ronald

160 for everything i reckon and PS stands for pilot screw. look, why not have a good read of the doc mate?

that will give you a deeper understanding and then you can try to take the tests and try your own ideas? it seems a bit perplexing at the start but it will soon come to you.

read the doc - carburation and then try something.

Thankx Taffy

Will start with smaller jet.

Down south we refer to a "PILOT SCREW" as an air screw, you learn something every day!

Till next time

defo the wrong name

on a dell orto that screw controls the air and what it lets through sucks up the fuel it can. but the keihin lets the air suck up the fuel and then regulates it afterwards as a mixture, thus the name pilot screw and not air or fuel screw.

Taffy
