Does anyone here have experience with the use of aluminium/carbon composite conrod in 650-engines or similar applications?

Best regards,

Al Carbon? How about forged Powder Metal, or even High Velocity Compaction (now a new technology started by Hydropulsor in Karlskoga). Check it out at www.hydropulsor.com This process utilizes iron alloys...could it be adapted to others? I think so, but it would require some materiaL development and market demaind...ideal for Husaberg parts! The company I work for has a 2000T press in the US to consider this technology....

There is a Swedish company that makes composite ones. I think it was about 3000USD

http://www.mxcomposites.com/ makes a special type on conrod. I'll leave it to the interested reader to find out more. The company was originally a part of Saab in Linköping but has now taken the plunge to being an own company.
The manufacturing is actually being made in Laxĺ, you know the place where the 'Berg factory was before the move to Austria.

I've ridden two bikes with this conrod (and other tuning stuff) and they are UNBELIEVABLE, the latter one has been benched to 70hp on the wheel. It was amazing. The rev up soooooo fast.

Mx-composite dont sell this rod over the conter. they want it to go tru Husaberg racing department. They are affraid off having bad rumors if peaple is instaling them by themself, The crank must be litneed and rebalance with a new factor and the oil flow to the rod must be modified to give more flow. as the composite rod is with no needle-bearing. it sits direct on the crankpin with just the oil-bearing (dont know the name in english). the price is approx 700-800$ + the modification on the crank.
Just talked to the president off the company :)

Linds factory training bike had 70 h with this rod with no problem.

A friend of mine brought a catalogue to me from a Motorshow in Calif, and it said $3000. I'll see if I can find it again.

I´ll have a chat with Lind. I was just curious if there were anyone on the forum actually riding a 650 with said conrod. I know it has been used successfully on 450´s with at least 70-80 hours, but 82mm stroke is another issue, me thinks. Some information on life length in a 650, would have been interesting? I´m not sure I really want my engine to pick up even faster... Could mean that it would require more attention from the rider = less attention for the cornering = more stressed rider = slower laptimes I´m already kept busy with the access to 75hp on the wheel and 75Nm. Call it positive stress! :D

What would the weights be for an OEM-, Titanium and an al/composite-rod?
