Is there an aftermarket piston/ring set available for an 05 650? I broke my oil control ring and it got me wondering if there is a better option out there. Imput would be greatly appreciated!

RE: Aftermarket piston, rings for

have a word with Dr_C as he is a roadracer and reaches the OEM's limits on a regular basis!

Is there an aftermarket piston/ring set available for an 05 650?

Take a look here: www.woessner-kolben.de
As far as I know is the quality better than OEM - I think Bergoroadracer is having some pics and weight comparison between OEM/Wössner in his gallery.

Hope this helps

Peter

not sure about the 05, but i had a wiseco in my 98 400 and was happy with it.

wossner would have one for sure for the later model 650 motor.
i did some piston weights for the early 650 motor(644cc)which is in my gallery.
the pistons for the late model (628cc)might be a bit different.
every wiseco piston i've seen is always much heavier, probably a good piston though, but not so good for performance.
again enginehardware or dr c would probably be the" bro's in the know"
let us know what piston weights you end up with,it would be interesting to know.

Hello,

I have measured sometime ago my 2004 piston stuff;

I will put in on the forum this evening;

Madero

i have photos of 3-4 pistons with all their different comps etc. it's not really my scene the 650 but i can put you on to a man who is: bergoroadracer!!!!

that man has such an impressive race budget that he has tried all the pistons. search out his gallery and then PM him. he is greek. his english is good but faulty so take it easy. very helpful man!

Hi e-body!

Yesterday I bought a Wössner piston set and totally new cylinder.
Compression ring end gap: 0.8 mm
Oil rings end gap: 0.8 mm
These are crappy sizes. I do not know what Wössner does! 8O

These are crappy sizes

oTo - please explain more detailed?? :?:
What´s crappy?
That you didn´t measure your (new?)cylinder before ordering the piston?
Or did "they" send you something different than ordered?
Or was something different (sizewise) in the piston box?
Where´s the cylinder from?

0.015" per inch of bore.

4"/100mm bore so that equals 6 thou - 0.006"

6 thou is 0.15mm

the above are the numbers for an air cooled nikasil barrel.

ok so it's only FIVE TIMES what it is meant to be!

write to the factory and ask for 'un-gaped rings'.

Taffy

Should Taffy's first number be .0015? (.0015 x 4 = .006)
6 thou doesn't sound like much end gap

that's it. no mistake. i used to run .006" on a 81mm bore.

Taffy

Gokai,
sorry, I'm angry.

FYI: the bike is FE501

So..
In chronological order:
- I bought a totally new cylinder (95 mm) from the HusaberG dealer. No problems, the cylinder is OK. The size of the cylinder: "I" (99.000-95.012 mm).
- I bought a Wössner piston from local dealer - 94.94 mm. The piston is OK (mounting clearance), but the gaps of the rings are not good. The gaps are big.
I take back the rings to the local Wössner dealer.

hello

644cc: piston complete 408gram
small end 70gram
piston 315gram
rings 21gram
balencer 2004 324gram
l liner 538gram

greetings Madero

sorry to here that oto
in therory everything is suppose to fit.
looks like i went the right way when i got mine rechromed,i sent the piston set down to them so they could make the
liner up to custom fit the piston set.
must be like an exaggeration effect, 1/2 a fly **** out in the piston diameter or sleeve, means 6 fly ***** out around the circumference of the rings.

I ordered an Wossner piston, marketed by Athena, for my KTM 520, which is my spare bike. I had problems with the rings fitting properly also. I ended up sending it back for credit and using the factory piston/rings.
