hi guys could really do with some impartial advice as really unsure on what to do so here we go.
i bought a 03 650 fe of a m8 of mine for 1500.00 and spent 500.00 making it alright the bike had had **** load spent on it i had receipts for over 1500.00 of work that was done to it and the engine as gone now , gone to the engine heaven in the sky ,the primary drive gear as snapped in to 2 pieces which as took the valves with it banana springs to mind. the problem ive go is i can have another engine ie recon on exchange with mine at a good price but after looking at all the receipts i have collected since owning the bike its all to do with the engine side and i just cant keep on chucking money at the bike the question i have got is ,do i break the bike up and sell as pieces and buy another hus , i just do not know what the prices are on the parts second hand . i know some of you will think it is my decision and mine alone and yes i know your right but sometimes we all need guidance thankyou

I never like to see the death of a berg but if it really is a basket case then sometimes it just has to be! I have an old 400 that some would class as "had it" but one day I would love to see it run again! Of course, its not costing me anything to have it sit there and I have other toys I can fiddle with in the meantime. My advise is to do whatever it takes to get yourself back in the saddle! ( Put a motor back in it!!!!)

What do you use the bike for? Occasional fun or daily transport? Can you work on it yourself? I can't imagine having to take it to a shop all the time... That being said, I like to tinker and the berg gives me lots to tinker with. It sounds like you have a couple of good shops in the UK. After riding mine. I'd say do the recond engine. I would have one if it wasn't across the pond. I'm sure if you take care of an updated reconditioned engine, it should last you a long time.

thanks for the replys i basically use it for fun as and when the british weather is nice , i can do some work myself just dont know the berg engine i mean the bike is mint in really good condition bar the engine now , suppose i am going to have to see wot the wife says as i cant imagine not having a bike its just sods law its happened at the beginning of our supposed summer

Hi
Its allways sad to part out one berg, that been said, for a better advice we should know more ...

If you use your bike for transport a make a lot of miles, that's not the ideal bike, maybe you should change it.
If you just like performance and use it just for fun, you will not find a lot like this.
If you do the maintenence yourself and take good care of it, its fine, but if you got to go to a shop each time you need to change the oil, it will cost you and maybe that not the bike for you.
If you like to strip the engine yourself, this can be a good hoby, if you go to a shop it will cost you a lot.

I think this older bergs are not for every one, they are play bikes and for owners that like mechanic.

the bike is for fun i love the fact when me and my mates are out on the bikes they just cant keep up with me ,they have got the ktm lc4 as for doing the mechanical side that doesnt bother me if u seen the bike now you would know im not scaredof getting my hands dirty its virtually stripped to nothing , i do all my own servicing , i think i have got one of them engines it just likes to sell destruct or perhaps its the way i ride it and also alot of my money as been spent on replacing old parts with genuine parts only dont like pattern parts but sometimes there is a fine line on how far do you go , i know i need a new piston , the gear that as snapped in half plus a wudrof key its just wot else do i need or do i say goodbye to this engine and get a recon and start fresh or say goodbye to my beloved berg , i know its costing nothing to sit in my garage the damn annoying side to it is it went for its mot last week and past and the road tax came the day the engine died sods law
