hey all, new to the husaberg thing

bought a 02 501e with 39 hrs use, its been stood for the last 8 months, ive not started it yet!

all fluids except oil has been removed,

so my questions are:

what oil
what plug
will it start with a dead battery?
what should i check, ie valves, cct's and so on?

ive read as much as i can about bleeding the cooling system, known issues and so on

many thanks and im looking forward riding the thing!

Hi there congrats on the purchase you should have a ton of fun once you get going. The owners doc would be the best place to start Its got all the info in there it's like an owners manual written from experience. I know my 08 550 used to kick start with a discharged battery. I would probably throw a little oil in th cylinder and crain it over a few times before I fired her up. Hope this helps.

If its an 02 with 39 hrs its been standing for a lot more than the last 8 months!

I'd be changing the brake fluid and pulling the calipers off the sliding pins and lubing them up and pull the pad retaining pins and antiseize them too while there. Pull the shock and swingarm and wheels and lube all shafts and bolts and needle bearings. Steering head too. Pull all wiring connectors and reassembly with dielectric grease, making sure all individual pins connect correctly in the multi pin connectors. Check the valves with the 1/6 turn method. At least drain the carb, but preferably strip and clean/flush it first. Drain the tank and get fresh fuel in it. It'll kick start with a flat battery if you have spark, compression and fresh fuel all at the right time. Once warm, dump the oil and replace with Delo 400. Good to go.

firstly, even if the others can't be arsed I'll say a big warm welcome to UHE fella. We usually try and make at least the first thread a pleasant experience!

put fresh oil in (900cc) and turn the engine on it's side both ways etc.
don't worry about the coolant, just fill it up and start it.
fuel - well the carb may stick but keep tapping it with the butt of a screwdriver.
the battery will charge just for this task or maybe it's had it.
try to use an iridium and the prefered choice is a denso IXU24 - a brilliant plug!

well thanks for the reply guys:)

spend 10 hrs on it last nite, in the kitchen, much to the bamusement of the missus
fired it up and did a little test ride, WOW this is going to be very interesting to ride,

i did notice after idle at the lights and then blip on the throttle, it puff a bit of smoke, could that be valves or rings?

i also found water in the oil, i think its just from sitting? ill be changing it again today!

no rattles engine wise, so im happy about that!

i believe its had some mods done, it had the ktm ignition fitted?

many thanks for the advise, it seems this is a good forum so ill be sticking around, thanks guys!
