Hi fellas! ( bike: husa 650fe -02)

Another problem with them sealings. The kickstart sealing is and has been leaking all the time I've had the bike. I remember reading from somewhere that this is a rather common problem in these bikes. The problem is now that it has started to leak much more than it used to be, now it gets disturbing as there's always drops of oil under the bike when i stop riding.

The actual question is that is there any fix for this than to buy the new husaberg sealing or is there a corresponding part from some ktm model for example? My local husaberg dealer is out of the original sealings. This model doesn't have the o-ring sealing anymore but can the older o-ring be used somehow?

Thank you already for your wisdom

- Jerry

The kickstarter seal leaking oil is not that common as far as I know. I would have your dealer order the seal that sits in the clutch cover. When you reassemble the kickstart lever onto the bike put a dab of sealer on the washer that holds the lever onto the shaft. Also use some medium strength thread locker on the bolt.
What is common is for the clutch cover to leak from the kickstart area. If you replace the clutch cover gasket, use a very thin layer of sealer along with the gasket around the kickstart area only. I recommend Threebond 1211 sealer.
In 03 they changed the cover and added an additional bolt hole to remedy the problem.
You will also want to check for cracks in the back of the engine case where the swingarm bolt goes through the motor.

.

Thanks for the fast reply. I changed the clutch cover sealing to a brand new and it shouldn't leak from there anymore. There is a clear line of oil coming from under the kicstart shaft. Thanks for the back of the engine-tip, too. Does the engine crack easily from the swingarm bolt area and if it does, is there any cure for that?

RE: .

jerry please put your bike and location in your signature.

i have an 'O' ring here. £1.

can't agree with ken on this occasion, in fat i do just the opposite. i 'copper slip' all my sidecover gaskets and the owners are on the same gasket 4 times (cover on and off) later.

o-ring?

Taffy, what do you mean by o-ring? As far as i know my bike doesn't have the o-ring at the kickstart anymore. It has just got the standard sealing which is in the clutch cover.

RE: o-ring?

Hi Jerry

If you've got an 02 cover on there then there should be a good old $1 O-ring on the outside between the cover and the kick lever.
In fact, I can't rememeber any other sort of seal on the inside of the cover for the kick shaft.

Gotta agree with Taffy on the side cover gasket.
If you ever wanna use that gasket again don't use the sealer. I also use copper slip (I've even used grease in the past) and never had a leak.
Mine's an Ozzy 03 which means it's the same cover as your 02 as we didn't get the extra bolt til 04.

RE: o-ring?

and i agree with berger about the leak at the cover. when i do a clutch cover i put sealant on the side that kept the locating dowels (usually the case). after reassembly on my '02 650, the cover leaked at the rear til i put more sealant there.
taffy, what is your "copper slip" made up of?

RE: o-ring?

it's just a trade name for a grease you put on brake pins etc called copper grease

RE: o-ring?

I need to take a picture of the sealing since mine does not resemble o-ring, not even close

O ring size?

Yes my 04 is leaking as well. Anyone know the size of the o ring?
I cant get one from you taffy it will cost $478.00 au before it gets here with our confetti based money!

RE: O ring size?

it's 17.5mm i.d and 3.5mm thick so i think that that's a 17.5/24.5. the important bit is the 3.5 and 7mm.

RE: O ring size?

As i assumed my machine does not have an o-ring there for some reason. The cover has 10 mounting bolts. Heres a picture of it: http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/8500/kuva0013.jpg . The pic is ****** but i think its visible that its not an o-ring :D Does anyone know the exact measures of that sealing so that i could get one from the local bike shop?

As stated before there shoud be an O ring that sits down in a recess in the case on the 02's, If that's not there then that is your problem.

.

Is it possible that i have a newer case or should the newer ones have the same o-ring there? Can't really figure the place of the o-ring either. Should it be between the sealing and the sleeve which i guess centralizes the kickstart shaft?

thanks already

Jerry do you have the 02 parts book? If you do it's on page 36 and the part is #25.

If you don't pm me your email address and I'll send it to you.

RE: Re: .

I dunno where you got that seal from Jerry !
Shouldn't be on the kicker.
I don't think the later cases had 1 either - someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes Coastie,

On the earlier bikes they just had the bronze bushing in the side case with a O ring. I sent him the parts book so he should be well on his way to figuring it out.
