towards the end of a 130 mile ride noticed a bit of a rattle.
just opened the rocker covers and found that the lock nut on the right intake valve is missing.
goin to pull and strip the engine this week, can't see the nut in the top end is it possible that it has made it into the bottom end via the cam chain tunnel?

any suggestions where to look first would be greatfully accepted

Hello Cypher,

What year is your Berg?

Does it have a magnetic drain plug? (03-06)

Drain the oil and check for magnetic particles,

If the nut isn't wedged in the top some where, it has likely made it to the bottom of the the engine and is sitting between the crankshaft primary gear and the clutch.

Remove the clutch side cover and look for it.

Let us know!

Good luck,

Joe

yeah its an 03 model. did an oil change yesterday.
nothing out of the ordinary on the magnetic plug or either filter.

wasn't going to bother checking but i just had this nagging in the back of my head that eventually made me check the valves. just as well.

you lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky *******!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

everyone else on this site has munched a rocker cover for that one i can tell you!!!!!!

you'll find it in your left hand cover.

no probs!

Taffy

whoohoo! nearly as lucky as me, i had two go missing, one stayed in the top the other was behind the clutch, which is where yours will be i imagine!

To prevent this from happening to your Berg, torque the valve adjusting screw lock nuts to 10-11 Nm. Thats 10 Nm up through year 03 and 11 Nm from 04-06.

Gents, get torque wrenches and use them on your Husaberg. The torque values are in your owner and repair manuals.

The potential costs of not doing so can park your bike for a long time if not forever!

Sorry for the rant, :)

Joe

that's not a rant joe!!!

i rant! it's my specialist subject. you keep it going mate!

good advice as usual from the wisened old chisel!!!!

Taffy

well looked at it this morning and thought should i do it the easy way or shall i take the engine out and give it a complete check over?

i chose option 2.

now, when i had the bike 6-9 months ago the only thing i didn't strip and grease was the swing arm spindle as it was lovely and smooth.....can you see where this is going?

i,ve just got the spindle out after 6 hrs work and now need complete set bushes, bearings, seals, spindle and nuts, new blow torch, hammer, drifts , punches and refill my oiling can.

may be now i can look for that pesky nut.

whilst i'm spending and the bikes apart i'm going to powder coat the frame and do several other mods.

gary grover does them regularly. it may pay to give it to him and it'll be done easy peasy, correct colour, no ****-ups etc, etc.

regards

Taffy

got the nut. it had landed on a ledge halfway down the cam chain tunnel.

also gave everything else a check and all seems in order.
