Insure you drain the catch tank between rounds lest you block the float bowl vent lines with fluid creating a variety of intermittent bogs and stumbles.

Just sorted such an issue, perhaps why such a recovery tank is up for auction.

You dont shove the lines all the way to the bottom of the tank first you cut off 6 inches of hose and slide in about a half an inch. This thing holds about a cup of fluid if you have that much fuel in it the float is set wrong or you crashed. Dont forget to drain it.

I beg to differ:
Quad vents are a safeguard to prevent fuel starvation from fuel plugged lines. When you route all four vents plus the float bowl overflow pipe into a common container having only a small single atmospheric opening you are asking for trouble regardless of how far you "shove" in said lines.

The overflow is to discharge excess fuel from the float bowl. Such excess is not only the result of an incorrect level and / or stuck float as large jumps, rough terrain, etc. induce erratic fuel level in particularly during low load conditions. The overflow stand pipe provides an escape path to assist in maintaining a stable fuel level.

Moral of the story:
Your cool / trick quad vent Keihin has been turned into a primitive single vent walbro from 1930.

Sincerely,
Dale

This is a good catch can that works as intended for a specific purpose to keep fuel from spilling on to the track during a race. If you forget to drain it you may experience problems. It does have a drain in the bottom that is very easily accessed so check and drain between motos.

Hi dirtberger,
Such was my point :)

"Insure you drain the catch tank between rounds lest you block the float bowl vent lines with fluid creating a variety of intermittent bogs and stumbles".

Respectfully,
Dale

This has nothing to do with the catch tank but more to follow on Dale's words of routing all the lines properly. I take the lines that are routed up from the float bowl vents, shorten them and tie them in a 180 above the carb, pointing down.

I learned this lesson the hard way, in a 30' deep stream, and the bike just stopped, as if someone turned the fuel off, which is what happens when all the float bowl vents are immersed in water, or in the case of Dale's warning, fuel.

By running the upper lines under the tank, the bowl is always vented, and the lower hoses can drain the bowl when needed.

i do the same fry. i run a single vent around the earth wire carousel up under the frame...

Another idea is to use the small automotive vacuum line tee fittings available at most auto part stores. I install them at the highest point of the vent lines bend and then run auxiliary vent lines from there up high under the tank. That way mud or water can never cause a problem and it also breaks any potential for a siphon on big jumps.

Great site! Thanks.

Hi fryguy,

"lesson the hard way, in a 30' deep stream, and "

30 feet! I'm not surprised it stalled.

30 inches?

I run 2 of my fcr vents up undr the seat and rely on the standard t fitting to do the job. 1 m deep water no worries.
