Hi all,

Sorry if this was brought up before but i did not find any answers...
I have a friend who just bought a 99 Berg FE400 and he has a problem in his hands...From what we did understood, is that the DELORTO carb is a pain in the a$$ and we tought that we might as well change it with the keihin carb 39 or 41, i understood that we can take the throttle cables from the wr 426 and the throttle tube from KTM 520 to work , we also need the starter rad, kickstarter shaft and gears becouse there are moments when we kick start it , it slips, the 6 pack washer from the clutch (the ones between the screw and the springs) becouse they are all broken and i think that's about it. I wanted to ask you if you have any ideas if we can update these parts from the newer models or from the 501 model or other models so that we will find parts in the future becouse i already see that the parts for the FE 400 are very hard to get, not to say IMPOSSIBLE if i want them new .
Sorry if i did not posted in the right area but we don't know what to do to or where to buy the parts to make the berg work.
Any ideeas are welcomed and i hope that you can help me :)

Alex

Hi

Don't know why do you don't like the dellorto, they are ok, obviously FCR is better !!

You can use everything from the 426 to the BERG, I've done it, except the jets and bellmouth. You also have to buy one aluminium intake and rubber.
When you finish it you tell me how much have cost you, ok ??

About the parts, most of the parts is the same between the 400's and the others CC's, if you are interested I might have something for you.

Hello.
If you change all jets in the carb the Dellorto is not so bad, i have bought Keihins but after rejetting the Dellorto i don`t care to do all the work that is it with changing to Keihin carb.
The clutch and gears/shaft to the kickstart is the same from 89-03.

ZAGA and Jampe thx for your reply... :)

About the delorto, i did understand from our mechanic, that it's a general problem with it but it seems that is not so bad from what you told me... Now it's done and he bought an keihin FCR41 from a 07 husqvarna with the cables and we will see how much will be the trouble to put it in place :)
I found some of the parts i need but i don't know if they will be ok for me cuz they are from 01 FC470 http://i.ebayimg.com/t/2001-01-HUSABERG ... ~60_12.JPG and i don't if they will fit the 400's of my friend. You will see in the attachemnt what i need and what i found.
Zaga, do you have these parts lying around for sale and the whasers from the clutch? What tube did you used for the keihin, the one from the 426? From where did you bought the aluminium intake and ruber?

Jampe,
Sorry to butt-in on this conversation
I too have a 99 FE400 with very few miles on it. I would like to ride it more but need to fix the carburation on the Delorto as you mention. It starts easy, but bogs on the throttle unless you keep it revved. You suggest replacing all the jets, would you be able to tell me what jets I need for this upgrade. I live in on the East Coast of US, all my riding is right around sea level.

the dell orto is fine and I don't like to hear so much crap said about it. people are so lazy, they don't want to work on the bike but just to buy and fit stuff.

flat spots can be fuel screw, tight tappets or ignition timing. the owner's doc shows the right position for the timing mark...

Thanks Jampe and Taffy too,
I'll be working on this over the winter months along with my sons KDX that has some ignition issues. We still ride our other bikes, have work and school, so it is a long but enjoyable process. Once I get the carb apart and take a look at what is there, I will order the parts. Thanks again for the info and support.

Cheers,
Bif
