I purchased my bike knowing it needed some work. I did some tinkering. Still couldnt get to the bottom. Started with hard to start and hard to keep running. The shop found that one of the three screws that hold the stator on broke off, the other 2 were very loose and one was bent. So needless to say they did fix it. But they say its still kinda hard to start but still doesnt run good. The fuel system has completely cleaned out and re-lined.

Now the electric. So first is what kinda problems did I have and what problems have probably become worse? What can I try next.

Is there any hope??

Hi HYPO1818,

Wecome to the gang, try the spark performance test, remove the plug remove the plug cap place the HT lead 10mm from the engine, NOT near the plug hole.
On a normal kick it should jump this gap if you find you have to close this gap say 5 or 6mm then I would say suspect stator.
Can you supply us with some resistance readings
Black to Red
Black to Green.

Sparks.

Hard starter

Hej.
I belive it`s the stator, if didn`t changed the sparkplug do that and try again.
My bike starts very easy when starting it downhill but very stubborn to start by the kick and i am pretty shure that it is the stator.

Check the owners manul for your bike and test the stator, you can find it at

I belive it`s the same manual to -98 as -97

Good luck

RE: Hard starter

Please start with the check out the thread belowspark check then look at the carburation

I copied a thread below that might be useful- The Dellorto is very finnicky on how the needle is adjusted and it is easy to do so try it. The bike normally starts easier if it is running leaner.

RE: Hard starter

Hey Troy, glad to see that you found your way over here. I told you that you would have answers within moments, bunch of great guys here on this site with great info.....remember I told you to listen to Sparks, he is the man with all the stator knowledge.

RE: Hard starter

What is the HT Lead? What part of the engine do I hold it approx. 10mm from?
How do I get Resistance Reading?

I did already change the spark plug.

I think I may have had one new injector replaced. I will have to check with Premier because I believe they did. But only on though.

I GREATLY appreciate everyones help.
Thanks to drdfblackm for leading me into this forum.

Re: RE: Hard starter

Ok, the HT lead is the wire that goes to the spark plug, hold this lead 10mm from anywhere off the engine (cylinder head).
To test the resistance you require a multi meter all bike shops should have one, you should have a friend that has probably got one.
You need to measure the resistance from the leads,
Black to Red should read 1750 +- 10% Ohms
Black to green 24 +- 10% Ohms
Not to sure what you mean by a new injector can you clarify what you mean.

Sparks.
