Looking to purchase a 1998 FC600. First purchase of a Husaberg.

Can you guys point me in the right direction a far as looking over a used Husaberg bike? I've searched the site already, but would appreciate any specific "trouble areas" the FC600 may have to look for?

Better yet, what am I getting into buying an older Husaberg, especially in regards to parts availability?

Thanks gents.

Tim

OK since nobody is biting on this (sorry fish :D ) I will give my 2 cents.
The 98's seemed to be very reliable especially the 600's. The main downfall was the starter sprag fragging. The FC doesn't have one so you should be OK there.
Like any 8 year old racing 4 stroke there is a chance that anything and everything could be worn out. Apply due diligence when checking it out.

Berger

If you have the 98 FC600 I'm talking about buying, your advice doesn't count !!!!:D

I just smoked through the account setup and overlooked my profile data.

I'm from El Paso, Tx.

Any/all advice appreciated.

Another question to add to the ones above.......Does KTM keep up the production/stock on parts for the more "mature" Husabergs like this '98 FC 600?

TIA.

autorotate,

The north american distributor for Husaberg is the Barrett Marketing group up in canada. They have done a good job over the last few years getting the bikes and parts for the bikes into the hands of the dealerships. I have not herd any complaints about waiting for parts like there were several years ago. You can have the part you need within 5-7 business days (time it takes to ship it ground mail) by calling one of the shops around the USA and placing your order. I will not endorse any one specific shop here in this post as that would be a little uncool of me but the parts are there and you can get them in 24hrs if your willing to pay the shipping fees. Hope this answers your question.

Regards,

Maybe my opinion won't count either since I own a 1998 FX 600e but here it goes.
As Berger stated:
"The 98's seemed to be very reliable especially the 600's. The main downfall was the starter sprag fragging. The FC doesn't have one so you should be OK there".

I have the electric start model and still have had zero problems with my 600. If the bike has been maintained as required it should be trouble free. I have a friend with a 1999 FE 501 (non-electric start) and it has been trouble free. So I can't help you about parts availability. Maintenance is the key. Ask the seller how often he changed the oil, adjusted the valves. and so on. Then it's a judgement call.........

I know of one that was for sale here and may still be. It belongs to member Husabro.
