Hello Everyone,
I was riding my 97 FE501 today when I noticed that it was making a strange ticking/clacking noise at idle. It's not constant but it is quite noticeable. If I rev it up it seems to go away. I would think if it was a lower end noise it would get louder. I know it's impossible to say what it is as I'm a mechanic by trade and it drives me nuts when people expect me to know what's wrong with their car without ever seing it. Lol.
If anyone can give me an idea where to start with common problems I'd appreciate it. The bike seems to run fine and pulls hard. I know there was problems with cam followers on the older bikes, what exactly fails? Do they crack or just wear out? I would assume that it would run poorly if this was the problem.
Another question I have is, will this bike hold up to street use? I have a plate on bike and was plannig to use it as a Supermoto street/track beat on bike. I have to admit that I'm pretty hard on the throttle and have really beeen enjoying the sound and power of the bike but I'm a little afraid that it may be to fragile for what I want to do with it. Any suggestions? I was thinking of using it for the track only and getting something like a KTM LC4 Supermoto for street flogging. However I REALLY like this bike so far.
Thanks,
Nick
