One thing you will find is that a bloke here in Oz rewinds them, but I have not heard of any successful rewinders in your part of the world. Dale Lineawaver would know if & where they might be done in US.

The part of the stator that dies to cause lack of spark has 4 windings each about 3500 turns of wire just thicker than your hair. But first you have to get the black potting material off to get to them. The job can be done at home but you have to be prepared to make up some tools & jigs & then have more patience (or stubbornness) than sense! Post if you want to go there.
