Hey guys. I recently opened the side cover on my 95 FE501 after having some shifting issues and first gear being completely unusable since I purchased the bike. I found several gear teeth laying in the bottom of the pan. I’m figuring this is why first gear wasn’t working.
I’m curious what models would have an interchangeable transmission gear system. You’ll have to excuse my ignorance here, I’m just learning how to work on Dirt Bikes.

count the teeth mate. count them on several gears if you like just to get a better picture.

as you work from left to right the gears go 1-5-3-4-6-2.

you haven't said which gear (input or output). if it is input you have stuffed the shaft. output, well you might get a gear but your problerm will be the selector worm will have also been tortured.

you want to put all new needle bearings, washers, "E3" washers and circlips in to give the gearbox the very best chance next time around. check the selector forks are true, check the selector claw isn't blunted on the sliding fork and base plate for the same. they blunt and then bind where they hit the selector pins.

cheers

Taffy

Thanks Taffy,
I haven’t pulled the whole unit out to see what is all missing yet.
I appreciate the info. I’ll let you know what I find.
