Hey gang,

I am a new user to this foum and not yet a Husaberg owner :( However I have my eye on a 95 FE 501 that is in exceptional shape. Trail ridden by a die hard "Husaberger" who traded it in on a brand new one. I am looking for an upgrade from my XL 185...I am 6'4" and 220# to say that the XL is too small is an understatement. I have ridden a few 450's and a KTM 300. The power is not an issue, in fact it is welcome. I understand that the carb can be troublesome and the stator as well. What FCR carb fits? And is there an outfit that rewinds stators in North America? I am in Northern BC, Canada so I will probably be looking for jetting tips as well. Thanks for the info. Non-Husaberg riders all say stay away, what do the loyal Husabergers say?

I bought a new '96 FE501 and rode it for years, completly trouble-free. Mine had the flat slide Delorto and, after getting it dialed in, felt no need for a Keihin. Mine was kick-start only and once the jetting was fine tuned it consistantly started second kick cold and usually first kick when warm. Boss Offroad in Portland, OR has a very big selection of parts if you need them including stators (at least for the later SEM ignitions - I bought one last summer for a '02 FE650). There are re-wound ones available, I think Premier Motorsports carries them.

I have very fond memories of my 501. It made a KTM 300 feel almost gutless in comparison, but was real manageable on a tight trail. I think it was easier to ride in tight stuff than the KTM 450EXC I had later on.

If yours has the flat slide carb they can be a bit quirky but I had no complaints with the one I had.

If you handle the bike with love and care it will last for many years, of course it depends on the former owners care too :)

Check the valvetrain, chain, valves, bearings and if any doubt change at least the rockerarm rollers and the camshaft bearings, if the camshaft bearings are bad the rockerarm rollers will go and the waterpump sealings too.

Change oil often 5-10h and change all the jets in the carb is a good start.

welcome to UHE mate. I also joined before I bought a Husaberg and I can't recall more than maybe one other person making such a statement on joining UHE?

but. why go looking for trouble? you can walk right round it and carry on your way? pretend you never saw it.

if you get it and things go **** up then you know we can get straight to the problem here and help VERBALLY but if you don't want any workshop time then this isn't the bike. all the rubber will be perishing on it for a start. if it's rubber it's going south! stators can be a problem as said. i just think it could all go wrong.

regards

Taffy
