struggling to figure out whats wrong here, the bike had quickly developed a problem in 3rd gear, its like the clutch is slipping, puts down enough power to roll along, but as soon as you ease on the throttle, it slips, 1st and 2nd gears are perfect and it even seems to be ok in 4th, i'd replced clutch plates, springs and bearing, along with new shifter forks in the gearbox which seemed worn, and any bearings needing replaced, and the gears all looked fine, no sign of damage, all back together and the proplem remains.. at a loss,

also when it slips, its not slipping out of gear, just like if the clutch was slipping, but i dont know how it can be, also seems slightly rough, unlike a clutch slipping, has anyone came across anything like this before?

I had something like that with my rfs525. It was the half moon plate &spring at the bottom of the gearing cogs out of place.
Just wondering , if its not clutch related, whether it could be that from when you worked on the gearbox?

thanks for the reply, not sure what the half moon plate is but I dont know of one in my engine..I now think its the dogs of the 3rd gear slipping out when accelerating. The star shifter and shifter barrel are in gd order, and the gears seemed in good shape but even a small amount of distortion could force apart the gears and stop them meshing, only thing it can be now, everything else is fine, annoying as the engine needs split again, bt sureee..
