Hello. Just picked up a 2011 FE570. It has a 70 Degrees mapswitch fitted. Do I have to stop the engine then change settings or do they change on the fly...???? Thanks
 
Yes mate you must stop the engine first. On the fly would be cool I had a vortex cdi on a yz450f and it was great, max traction to dig out of corners and then max power at the flick of a switch..... Then I got a 570 and none of that really mattered anymore. Great power plant.
 
You can pull in your clutch, kill the motor, then switch the map. Then restart the motor with the new map. I am just carefull where I do it on the fly. Have fun with your FE570!

The problem with this is you have to wait 5-6 secs for the bikes ign to turn off before you can restart with the new map or it won't change. I can't understand why they made it like this. Surely it would've been just as easy and probably no more expensive to have an ECU where you can change maps without all this palarva?
 
Don't know mate Davo would by the one to shed some light on that. But is it really an issue with the 570 ? I find that the broad spread of torque and flexibility of the power delivery makes different terrain easier to cope with, that being said I do change maps when going from hard pack to sand or when it's rainy heavily and very muddy.

If I'm honest, no, not really. For the type of off road terrain I ride the low power mode delivers an excellent balance of power and tractability. I never use the 'standard' map and go straight to full power mode for the ride back home on tarmac. The point I was trying to make is if you give a vehicle the benefit of multiple performance maps then why not make them as easy and convenient to use as possible?
 
Hey Berglsmerg I don't know the answer on the Map Switch and how long the engine needs to be off for when switching.
I see pegscrapers point, the Power Relay stays on for 5 or 6 seconds after the engine stops.
 
Maybe ktm left some headspace for the serious tuner ? Are any of the other keihin injected bikes ( jap big 4 mxer's) able to switch on the fly. Since owning a berg I have lost touch with the latest and greatest. :lol:
