i would like opinions on these from people who have can compare them to a normal configuration. didn't they win some major races? i wonder if they are superior to a normal layout......
 
No they are not superior. They are different so it's about preference in geometry, weight distribution and handling. The engines has shown good reliability over time due to big crank case bearings and a bit more material in the blocks.

They are very good but not superior. The only way to know if you prefer them over a 6-days is to try.
 
Compared to a 2008 or 2009 era KTM, I think they are far superior in terms of handling. Once you get used to it, they turn faster and easier than a standard bike.

But the newer bikes have kept evolving and the mass centralization, suspension improvements and general lightening that has been happening has made the modern bikes jump back ahead of the 70º bikes. We have to remember that they were first shown in 2008. That was 8 years ago. The development started even earlier than that.
