Hi guys, I was just wondering did any of you ever tampered with the original exhaust of a 650, like taking out it's inside or stuff like that. My bike sounds a bit dull and since im not riding it on the road only offroad, i don't see much point in keeping it silent, plus if there is some power gain if you free it up a bit it might be even worth it.

Cheers, Tom

I have an '06 650. The bloke I bought it off removed the end cap and simply removed the pipe connected from there. As in basically it stopped it from being straight-through and gases had to backtrack to get through this little dumper pipe. My bike sounds fairly beefy. I do use it on-road but there is no way it is under the standard. I've been questioned about it before by the cops but because it is the 'standard' pipe he just figured it was fine.
I did none of this work myself so I can't suggest how it was before/after but it sounds pretty mean. I guess you'd get even more tone from it if you tried jamming the packing in harder. The more compressed it is the less sound it removes.

Mine was modified by the guy who dyno tuned it. Didn't tell me or discuss it, just did it. Its now straight through and only loud when revved. If used in the mid range, not too bad, and it definitely goes better, but how much of that is due to the pipe, I'm not sure. Others like Bushmechanic have done it too with power benefits. And it looks stock, which is good. I don't like noisy bikes at all, and mine is borderline for sure.
