well i stripped the '650' and all is excellent inside. just needs a spilit link, cam bearing and the cam cleaning. of course every part of this '03 could be replaced as a precaution but i reckon i want out of it as it isn't what i wanted.

noticed a seal on the left of the crank and shoulder spacer within, also the later clutch, extra screw in the left cover. two bolts for oil in the RHS of cases as well as the bolt hole to lock the crank. that's about it as far as mods go over my '02.

is it worth more in bits or together?

Hello, Taffy!
Are you talking about a complete bike or a "just" a complete engine?

Either way, even if you can put up with all the work, I think selling in pieces doesn´t pay off like you would expect/want to.

i have just stripped the engine to check that it is all in good condition. i can put it back together properly, stip it to pieces or even rebuild it with new camchain, bearings, rings etc etc etc.

i'm genuinly not sure which way to go?!

did you see me mention the lighter camchain fitted to the sherco?

You can allways put all the pieces in a box and ship it to me! What yearl is it?

No, I´ve missed the lighter camchain. What´s that about?

i have checked it through and washed it all up today. needs very, very little. one selector fork seems to have taken all the **** yet the 'box is excellent. new gearbox bearing, 2 cam bearings some seals and gaskets.

now regards this camchain. as you may know, i'm now into shercos. they share a lot in common with ktm and beta and indirectly back to husaberg. i have this really short link chain on it. like 5 husey to 6 sherco links. yet the camwheel is still 36 and the bottom 18 teeth. it weighs nothing!

it has virtually the same cam as a husey, and camwheel. it has the same decomp method but the decomp weight is a lighter build.

i know that you're serious about the whole engine. i will try and get the broken chain and the camwheel back (with one chipped tooth) to assess it against the husey. wait until thursday/friday and i'll let you know more.

i have a large spacer on the left hand end of the crank that sits inside a seal. the spacer has one rounded end and one square. wanna confirm which way around this goes?

regards

Taffy

so I guess in 2009 Husaberg will only have two models, the 450 and 570? no more 650s? hmm two models only. thats a shame.

yeah ...ktm already has a 250f !

RE: Re: RE: 650 engine. which way out?

a little sarcasm -

if the '09 Hussey motor is just a KTM 450 turned 180 degrees and rolled over 70 degrees with the cylinder head on backwards, it should be an easy retrofit....lol.

and probably better than the katooms still.

Azza - just sarcasm cos the opportunity was there.

Two models in "new_style", yes.
"Old_style" FS will stay 650 in 2009 too, but with FI ... my info from EICMA.
But, lots of talk these days about 350 ccm and new regulations ... KTM is pretty keen to adopt new rules ... and who is KTM`s guinea pig?

Cheers, Goran

Hi Taffy,

Sounds like you may have a crank there with the DCR mod, the edge that has been taked off faces inward. This is to aid the spacer when pushed on so there is less chance of damaging the oil seal.

Sparks.
