I have a few questions to the 650 Berg owners out there.

What year motor is the best pick?? 2008 and up or??

What problems were there for say the 2006 to 2007 bikes??

In gerneral how reliable are the 650's if you change the oil filter ect often??

Hard starting the beast?? or easy to start for the most part??

all 650's from 2004-2008 are now equally reliable. clearly, even a 2004 is now getting old for a performance bike but it has been very good. typical things with 650s are that the auto decomp goes soft and the batteries go weak. other than that it's all down to how you think the bike got looked after.

I have an 08 FS650 and LOVE IT! I'm at 60hrs now and have had no issues bar a popped head gasket (bad gasket by the look of the fire ring, no engine damage done and it looked perfect inside) and I changed the cam chain whilst apart coz the tensioner was about 75% extended. I give my bike a hard time but service it well and its been the best bike I've ever had (25+ years riding and racing). Every mate I've let ride it is blown away by the performance and are now looking for one of their own. Can't recommend them highly enough. :bounce3:

I'm taking 02 FE650sm Berg to a test ride and maybe buy it. Do 2002 650cc have any weaknesses what I should check. I have heard that 2002 has some cam shaft and magneto problems, are they true and how they can be fixed?

the 2002 can have a lot of problems with it. you need to known whether the owner has tried to remedy any of them?

a sparks stator
when were the inlets checked for tuliping?
how are the cam follower bearings?
how many clicks left on the cam chain?
have you ever fitted a new atomiser and needle?
how often was the oil changed
do you feel full compression (= its no longer working) when kick starting or has the decomp been upgraded?
does the starter motor slip?
how much guts has the starter got? if slow but continuous = good battery poor starter motor
if KO'd after 4 seconds = battery gone and still not sure about the starter motor.

you'll find these things discussed as subjects in the doc.

Bought 'o8 from dealer in October out in Idaho and did 2600 miles, 400 offroad, up through mountains into Montana and back from Wyoming through to the Black Hills and the Pig Tails. No problems.

Rode straight through winter and have ove 7k miles on it. Have not ridden her since beginning of April while waiting for parts to change water pump bearing. Need to check wear but she has been incredible.

This bike is intoxicating. It rips hrough the city better then anything I've ridden so far, Ducati 996, MV Augusta Brutale, BMW Boxer Cup, and more.

I love thhis bike so much I hope to pick up an FS out west next week if I collect some cash and do another trip up PCH to Vancouver and down to Salt Lake for WSBK before taking the twistiest way back to the flat lands.

Small backpack, tools, deflatable fuel blatter, combined with picking up some oil every thousand miles or so and you have a great trip, no nonsense trip.

If she breaks down, highly unlikely, she's easier to push and pick up to put in a rented van if necessary.

KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid.

If you are passionate about bikes and only have two thumbs you won't be disppointed, unless you like riding like a pansy. Then you'll have to change your panties often or your Swede will spend too much time sitting in the garage yearning to be abused and to stretch her long legs.

Yes, I belive wine goes only with cheese.

Cheers!
