The factory recommends 5W50 for my '03 FE400, I can't find it anywhere. Checking some of the oil company sites it doesn't seem to be produced by anyone either.

I've been running MOTUL 10W50 which has been fine, but I'm wondering what others have learned to be the best oil for their Bergs? I'm surprised that the factory manual does not recommend different viscosities for different temperatures.

Lots of opinions, bit like arseholes (everyone has one). Do a search and you'll find heaps dating back to almost the first post on UHE.

Caltex/Chevron Delo 400 15/40 (not the LE version) for me, my opinion, as per my previous comments, cheap and effective, with hard evidence of its superiority in my 501 re valve gear wear compared to Mobil 1 4t. Needs a good kick, no button, when temps below 10 deg C. Recently got 20 l drums for Au $75 each, bargain.

i use the motul factory 5W50 thats green.

works fine.

What about Castrol Syntec 5W50 automotive oil?

Castrol Syntec 5W50 meets the API SG/CF standards as per the manual and its readily available. However, it is an automotive oil and I'm worried about additives.

I used to run automotive oils for years in my WR's with no dramas, much more reasonbly priced in comparison to moto oils for a good quality synthetic oil, meant i could change it fairly regulary aswell and wasnt to worried about the cost.
Only thing i wasn't sure about is clutch life and if the moto specific oils have some kind of additive in them'for the clutch?

motor oils screw with your clutch. suggest semi-synthetic m/c oli. 10/40 in the winter and 15/50 in the summer.
