I noticed my idle wasn't quite right last time out, but the bike seemed to run fine. I took her out this morning and the idle was not right again. I pulled out the cold start and ran it for a minute, then turned it off and went for a ride. At first the bike felt a little flat in the mid range, then would not rev and started running like poop. It runs fine if you just putt, but try to run it hard and it falls on it's face. I nursed it home and looked it over, but nothing obvious. No codes flashing, motor noises, etc. Fresh air filter, oil and all that. Clogged injector maybe? I'm coming up on 100 hours. Valves haven't moved, but are probably due to be checked again. Haven't found anything odd in the oil, filter or screens during regular changes. I've had the tank off a couple times to resolve a leak in the subframe tank, and had the rear shock off a few times, but that's it. I have been watching the wiring near the shock and made sure it wasn't rubbing on the engine case too. Any ideas?

Is there an inline fuel filter? The one in the tank is fine. I guess a spark plug would be a KISS fix! LOL It seemed to be fuel related to me, but with EFI I can't say 100% it's not electrical.

Spark plug would be the first thing I would check/change. Air filter over oiled?

I thought about the air filter thing, so i pulled it and dabbed some of the oil off. I'll grab a plug today and try it, just to eliminate it. I doubt it's the problem though. What plug does this bike run>??

How do you know the one in the tank is fine? Have you changed it?

Have you pulled the fuel pump holder to check for debris on the pre filter?

In the shop manual, and the owners manual I believe there is a scheduled test that uses and in line fuel pressure gauge. It simply clips in where the quick disconnect is. I believe correct fuel pressure is 48 to 54 psi at all load ranges.

It is also possible that the fuel regulator has a problem.

I installed the 70 degreeracing filter when I did the subframe tank. I was unaware of the second filter until yesterday. I'll take a look at that filter today, once I figure out where it is. I didn't see it mentioned in the owner's manual. I guess it might be time to invest in a repair manual also. Is the fuel pressure guage a Husaberg or KTM specific tool, or is it a universal one?

Just got word from NGK that the stock plug for the Bergs is a dealer only item. It will not be available aftermarket. The only other plug they would recommend is the same number, just a nickel electrode and is also a dealer only item. Nice. Guess I won't be selling the plugs trackside.

I had no worrries sourcing replacement NGK plugs for my 570 from the local honda/yamaha deler in australia.

Bought an NGK LKAR8AI-9 off eBay a couple of weeks ago.

You'll need a bank loan to buy one though ... 8O

I would guess that for the cost of the gauge, you would just take it to your dealer and let them do the check, can take more than 15 mins max to do the test.

I'm going to pull and clean the injector and the fuel line first. If it still runs poorly, I'll load it up and make the drive to the dealer. Since I've had the tank off a few times lately, it makes sense that dirt got into the quick disconnect and made it's way into the injector. I got lazy and didn't bother with the wash cap I bought and I think it came back to bite me. The only other thing I've done as of late was have the mid pipe welded were it broke at the top mount.

I back flushed the injector and cleaned it out really well, cleaned all the fuel lines, checked the filters and installed a new spark plug for good measure. She runs like a top again. I'll be a little more cautious with the fuel lines next time.

I'm glad you got it sorted.

The bike had run fine since the last post, but has started doing it again. It ran fine during an enduro, but started up again after I washed it. Not sure if the two are even related. Could it be a water related issue?

I had a similar problem once. After washing, ran poorly. I removed the throttle body and cleaned what I guess would amount to the pilot hole and behind the idle adjustment screw? There was a fair amount of gunk in there. I assume washing it got some water in the filter. When the butterfly is closed that is about the only way for the engine to breathe. Anyways it ran great after being reassembled.

Are you guys using the wash cover in the filter box when you wash it?

The induction system is totally sealed from the rubber tub on down. You also have to be careful when removing a dirty filter, and check to make sure that no junk has fallen down into the throat of the throttle body.

I don't know about anybody else, but, when I got my bike I pulled every single electrical connector apart, cleaned it, and applied a liberal amount of di-electric grease inside all of the connectors. If it's packed with grease nothing else can get in.

Also, after I wash my bike I blow it off with compressed air, especially the fork tubes to keep water spots from forming. And I run my bike until the fan comes on to make sure everything is dry.

Hope this helps.
