hi i think the vacume pump on the 501 i got as a project is knackerd any way to bench test it ?
thanks in advance
john

you mean the little vacuum operated fuel pump that pumps fuel from the low side of the tank to the high side of the tank on the older fe models?

you could test it with a vacuum guage, the one that comes out the middle that attaches to the intake should hold a vacuum, the other two should hold vacuum or pressure in one directiononly, ex: the lower one will hold a vaccum but will release pressure, the upper will hold pressure but not hold vacuum..... if you take it apart it becomes evident how it works but you my need a new diaphram if you do that and you tear the old one.

if it was bad the buike would run out of fuel but the right side of the tank would be full of gas still....at least i think thatss the only thing it would cause if it failed.......it could fill the hose to the intake with fuel or depending on the fuel level possible fill the engine with fuel if you had a full tank of gas...

i think i remember seeing a replacment gasket for just a few dollars online somewhere, no need to replace the whole pump, just google search mikuni fuel pump, buy the diaphram....and sandwich it in there!! the valving is all part of the gasket/diaphram. even if you do replace the whole pump i guess they are pretty cheap too

yea i thort it would be somthing like that cheers for help dude i cant wait to sort all little bits out and actualy take the bike for a ride

Not to Hijack this thread but I took my tank off on my FE600 and don't remember where all the lines go now for the fuel pump, can someone help me out?

going from memory.............

-the intake pulse tube goes into the side of the pump (if you lay the pump flat on its back it will be the one sticking up)
-the bottom of the pump inlet goes into the bottom of the long side of the tank, (its a really short hose)
-the pump outlet goes from the pump outlet over to the left side of the tank 'L' fitting thats behind the petcock
-the petcock fuel line goes into the carb
