can I hang 650 components on a 501 to make a big bore? what are the major differences in the engines? I am looking for a 650 and found a nice 02 501 for 3k.

You will need: 650 cases,650 crank/rod, 100mm liner + piston + a few other bits n pieces to build a 650.

I would consider it cost prohibitive, unless you source used parts.

I would consider a 550 conversion first- much easier + cheaper.

Personally, I would rather a 501 anyway.

No you cannot, the 650 uses different engine cases.

Unless you do as Ausberg stated, change the cases, piston, liner, con rod,...

in which case you might as well just look for a complete 650 engine

501 with 400 rod with 550 little end bush with 650 stroker crank with 100mm barrel. you just got yourself a 650!
