Hi..
Would like some opinions on 5" or 5,5 rear wheels? Any benefits or disadvantages?

the 5.5" is ideal for the Dunlop KR108 170 rear slick. Most of the pros in the US run the 5.5" with that tire. I use the same tire on a 5" and it works really well so I'm not sure how much better it would be on a 5.5" The 5.5" will be very snug with the oem swingarm.

How do you get the chain around a 5.5" rim & tyre? Is the back wheel centre plane to front sprocket offset greater on the later bikes or do they just shove the rim off centre? The '98 is pushing the limit with a 4.5"!

to make a 5.5" wheel work correctly without having chain lash tearing up the side of the tire you have to lace the wheel with a little offset.

Thanks Mike. How much can the rim be off centre before it becomes a problem with bike handling? I only ask becauce I got a cheap set of CBR600 wheels the other day for our next motard project (whatever that may be) and the rear is 5½".

Now that you mention it, the rear dirt wheel off the mate's KTM 525 we did was already laced about 6mm off the hub centre. Thought it was strange but it looked original. When I fitted the cast road wheel I just put the road wheel rim in the same position.

I use 5" for michelin (160/63) and 5,5" for dunlop (170/55), before for Berg '04 now for Kawa KX (I'm waiting to buy the '09 Berg 8) )

For the chain, this is my solution:

6 mm disc, but is to much (sprocket touch the swingarm), I'm waiting for a 4mm
