Hello guys, I'm Boby from Romania and I'm fan of enduro and supermoto cycles.
I've studied the possibility to change my motorcycle ( I have a street one ) and buy an enduro - supermoto. Most of my friends have this type and I noticed the versatility of this kind in town and off road.Well, I decided finaly, but i have a lot of questions to all of you.I am looking of your site since May and I know I will find some answers from 'conneseurs'.
In my town, Bucharest, is one dealer of Husaberg and a lot of Ktm's..So, this dealer guy tell me that beside of the smaller price ( 1.000 Eur ) than the same Ktm modell, Husaberg has more racing motor, linear power and also 40% of the pieces same like Ktm ( is a big advantage ).
My wonderind are about : 1.the capacity - i'm most intersted in 550 than 450 because 70% of the time I'll use it in the town every day, in rest with the friends off road. But I'm rookie, so I don't know if i'll be capable to run a bigger power. Is it the motor appropriate for daily use in the town?
2.the dealer told me that is much better to buy an enduro type and transform it to supermoto ( because of the course of suspensions ), but in this case i'll remain with the 260 mm brake in the front and I don't want to happen like that. What can I do, I want the cycle in town and also in off road. What kind of best solutions can you give me?
3.I forgot to tell you that most of my friend have Ktm's, but I don't want to be influenced by them. They told me that a lot of Husa's are boiling in off road and they are not so good, mechanicaly speaking, like Ktm.Also, I understood that I have to check to Berg at 10 hours, instead of 20 in Ktm's case. How do you check your's, in town and in off road.
I don't know if my English was good enough to understand me and I hope you will be not so angry because all of the asimilations of the Berg with the Ktm,

Best wishes, Boby.

P.M. I am waiting you next year at the ROMANIACS and other competitions.

Welcome Bob,
Being in your situation before I have to recommend the 550. It's easier to learn throttle control than to build a 450 capable of performing like a 550.

As for using the bike for a day to day commutor bike. I can not recommend it. Bergs are race bikes. They are built to be ridden and maintained as such. If you are just planning on using it for an occasional trip in town it may be OK.

As for overheating. With proper jetting and a fan kit the Husaberg should hold it's own with any other modern water cooled 4 stroke bike out there.

Thank you Berger,

Concerning the type of the Berg, I thowght also at 550 instead of the 450 because of the time to spent in town. Why you sad you don't recomend as a commuter?I have some friends who got some racing cycles and they use them without mechanical and electrical problem in town and also in off road.
How you advice me to buy : an 550 E and transform it in supermoto or viceversa, what is the cheapest solution ?Can I ride in town with front wheels with 260 mm brake that belong to 550 E or I do necessary to put wheels with 310 mm brake?

Sorry to bother, Bob.

Hi Bob,

in fact the KTM EXC is not better than a Husaberg. It´s almost a religious war. :D
It´s true that since 2004 a lot of KTM and Husaberg parts are identical (obviosly KTM produces Husabergs with a lot of parts they also use for their bikes).
The themical toughness of the Berg should be better than of the KTM because of the bigger cooler.
I see lots of KTMs which produces white fog. From my experiences the KTM comes faster to the boiling point.

Riding with the 310mm brake disc in front should only be an issue when you decide to ride on supermoto tracks. For commuting on the
streets you can keep the 260mm disc.

I would recommend a FE 450. It´s easier to transform the enduro into a street bike than the SM with less travel into an enduro. The 450 has enough power for both activities.
I think this bike will bring you lots of fun!
