Trying to decide on a 450 or 570 and was wanting to know if anybody has ridden both back to back. I did a seach but could not find anything?
I have ridden a 390 and loved it, but my riding is in more open stuff, but when I race we get in some tight tech stuff and was wondering how much more the 570 was over the 450 to handle. I imagine in a straight line, 4rd ,5th gear stuff handling would be the same as they are the same weight. It's more the flicking side to side in say 2nd,3rd gear I need to know about. I guessing the rotating mass would have some efect, but how much. 390 would be nice, but not for where I trail ride most of the time.
Has anybody ridden a KTM 530 back to back with a 570 to compare??
Cheers

Most of us who went to FR3 have ridden both machines. I am not an expert rider but I dodn't really like the 450. I found it heavier than the 390 and didn't feel like it had that much more jam. (I am only 190 pounds) I have heard heavier riders notice a big difference. The 570 was awesome. Lots of torque and you can be lazy with the gears. I was fastest on the track with the 390 followed by the 570. If I didn't have the 650 I would buy a 570 because of the handling and power but since I have and love my 650 I will be buying a 390.

Not tried the 390 or 450 but if this helps I just sold my 4 month old 2009 530 EXC and got the 2010 FE570 and would not have done so if I thought I was going to be worse off.

The 570 handles much better than the 530, it give you so much more confidence. In the tight stuff it tips and turns fantastic. The power is that much smoother and the FI over the carb is a huge improvement for instant throttle response.

I have heard and read many times that the 570 is actually easier to ride than the 450, and that would not surprise me at all. You can get very lazy with the 570 and torque your way through things or short shift her all you want. It DOES NOT feel like a big bike at all, the hype about it feeling like a 250 is all true. If you are lucky enough to have mates with one or a dealer with a demo model you will be sold on your first ride.

Interesting comment eyspy. Just about to take delivery of 570 and had the same questions in my head about 570 v 450. Everything I have read seems to agree on the 570 being 'easier' and more forgiving to ride than the 450. Almost sounds too good to be true, masses of torque and agility in the same package. Can't wait to throw the leg!!!

Hi, I have ridden all of the bikes on enduro course at race pace with tight rooty woods and open stretches and hills on grass.
i rode an 08 ktm 530 before getting an 09 fe570 and agree pretty much with what eyespy said there.
I did a few laps on my 570 first to guage the others. I was hoping for the 010 570 to compare it with my 09 but someone smashed it up before me.
I then did laps on 010 fe450 and found the suspension/ handling very nice considering it was all stock and i was definitely faster adn easier throught the tight woods section, dont get me wrong, my 570 is hellish good in woods but the extra 120cc is never gonna do you any favours in the really tight stuff.
I then did laps on the 010 fe390 and was surprised just how grunty this motor is, more so than my old 400ktm. Going thro the woods it was razor sharp like an even lighter 450 on crack and herein lies the problem for me. I started overcooking it, having to adjust and correct all the time, it was trying to climb out of the berms and the front was too flighty. Now ,i have no doubt, in the right hands , the 390 would be a formidable woods weapon especially in the real slippery slop. But for me, i found the 450 more stable and easier to ride.
Out on the longest straight, all three had more than enough power to be on it neck & neck to the end and all three would lug right down in third gear and actually pick up again, something i was not expecting from the 390. I also crashed the 390 going down a fast hill and thro a bog, the front tucked and i went over the bars, should have dropped a gear and been more agressive i guess but with the 570 you just blip the throttle and your through, makes you lazy .
In fairness , i did have the map on soft on the 570 and its normally on aggressive wqhere it would pick up far quicker and i still find the 570 to be great out in the open and up hills, more stable as well.
All three are cracking bikes and do some things better than the other. But neither the 450 or390 does enough for me to go rushing out to the dealers and parting company with my 570, too much of a grin factor for the time being.

I went from a KTM 250XCFW to a 09 FE450 and now have a FE570. I agree 100% with all of the prior post. The FE 570 is easier to ride than the FE450 in every circumstance IMO.
And also I think it will live longer too.

I've ridden a 2010 390, 09 450, 09 570 and a 09 450 fitted with a rekluse z start. All were stock standard inc susp settings except for the 450 rekluse.

i spent most of the time on the 450 with the rekluse and the 570 on a 4-5 hour ride through a mixture of rutty tight single trail to loose open fire trails.

By far my favourite(and probably the best bike i have ever ridden) was the 450 rekluse. i felt very comfortable and was fast straight away. next favourite was the standard 450 then the 390 and last the 570.

I know there is little weight difference between the 570 and the others but the 570 felt massive. i didn't like it at all. If i didn't know i would of thought there was 5-10kgs difference between the 390 and the 570.

If is was a toss up between the 450 and 570 i would go the 450 hands down. Most of my riding/racing normally is single trail in steep hilly forest where better handling is more critical than massive power(not that the 450 is lacking!!!!)

The only bike i didn't get enough time on was the 390. I only rode it for about 30 mins and it was also the first bike i rode that day. i feel that if i got a bit more ride time on the 390 and it was set up like the 450 rekluse it would be my favourite but....... the 450 with the rekluse was sooooooo good. The clutch was such an improvement on an already awesome bike that i don't think i could own a new berg without one.. That good. Worth it's weight in gold..... (or championship points!!!!)

So anyway my preference by FAAAAAAAARRRRRRR would be the 450 over the 570.
