Time to hold up the white flag.
The FE450 is killing me.

How different is the power delivery of the 390?
Is it less tiring?

i have ridden the 390 but it was at fr3 so thats a while ago now.

easiest way to descibe it is a 390 set to aggressive is almost a 450 set on soft, but not quite.

as i keep saying had the 390 been around when i went for one of the new bikes i'd of had that over the 450 for what i ride.

Has anyone tried dropping the compression on a Berg by adding a thicker head gasket or similar?

I know when i had my 86 495KTM that was a popular trick to make them less brutal........... not sure if that works as well on a fourstroke though.

Just an idea,

Carl

Don't jump to extreme measures take a deep breath exhale and . . .
1 Replace that fast throttle, is it 1/4 turn ? or almost ? get yourself a 1/2 turn. This would be simple with a carb.
2 Get a "flywheel" weight - fits on, or replaces the AC rotor. Should smooth output some.
3 Buy a 50,or 52 maybe a 53 tooth rear sprocket. Also a couple of countershaft sprockets, experiment.
4 You are referring to the New 450 ? if so you likely have tried the "mellowest" setting ? Could there be a low octane map for the the third world ? if so should ****** the ignition a bit.
5 is your seat too high ?
6 Have you matched your suspension to your weight ?

The 390 is renowned for being less tiring. But I don't consider my 450 much more tiring than the 390 I rode..
Like it has been mentioned, get the throttle ratio changed and maybe a map switch to get a softer hit of power.

I wanted a 390 , but bought a FE 450 ( better deal ) . The 450 is to much for me, so I put a G2 throttle cam , 13/50 gearing ( smoothed out power) , ans mapping on soft setting . I also added a Rekulse clutch . My bike is VERY smooth . My buddy rode it stock with above settings , and he said his 2009 KTM400 had more power than my 450 !! he had a FMF full system on his . So try to detune youe 450 before you sell it . The FEs are very east to tune up or down on power

I kind of scratch my head when I see these 'Too much power' and 'Too tiring' types of complaints. I guess that I am old school where the attitude is that you can never have too much or even enough power, as long as that power is easy to modulate. For play riding, the extra power is a lot of fun and even helpful in some situations as in hill climbing for example. These complaints can be exacerbated to a large extent simply by learning and practicing proper throttle control, and yes a G2 throttle cam system may help here.

I agree with Chas,it's mostly a matter of the righthand.

I just suck riding , and the Husaberg is SO fast and SO smooth , that you get going to fast before you know it , then your like OH !@#& !!!!!!!!!!!! I can't stop ! I also have a problem with my wrist , it wants to twist !!! .
