My 2012 Fe 450 is running pretty hot I’m looking for a solution or two. Does anyone out there have any suggestions. I’m thinking a fan kit...?

How hot, and in what sort of riding?

Are the radiators in decent shape?

What fluid are you running?

These bikes absolutely need a fan kit if you are riding them in lower speed trails. Also not a bad idea to flush the coolant and check that the cap is functioning properly.

If the bike is running lean it will also run hot. Are you noticing any issue with engine performance (cutting out or backfiring)?

FE450 running hot - advice

Radiator fan a MUST (I've actually boiled by fuel!) Also run "Engine Ice" coolant or some similar product. Good idea to put a heat reflective blanket under the fuel tank. -Ray, (in the wilderness near Durango, CO)

FE570 Went on a ride boiled the fuel. When I remove the fuel cap the filter sock stood up like A dildo Lasted for more than a minute. The cap had a one way valve on it went back to stock no more dildos. Sorry this isn’t any help but it was funny. A fan something to reflect the heat from the tank maybe some exhaust rap. All can help

The hoses are only going to be worth it if your stock ones are failing. I would check the hose that runs behind the exhaust tube as it tends to break down faster than others because of the radiant heat from the pipe.

What temperature setting have people got set for when the fan kicks in.. Suggestions??

I believe the factory ktm kit thermoswitch is set to activate the fan at 100/95C

Many people do however use a BMW switch which brings that down to 90/95C

Great thanks

Could also add a coolent catch tank helps stop over heating and when your bike starts to cool down it sucks the coolent back into the rad from the catch tank I just installed one on my fe 450. If you were to ever loose coolent it goes into the catch tank so u won’t risk running out of coolent if your overheating

have you jet wash the radiator? is the bike kept clean ?....there can be lot's of dirt on the radiator fins preventing it from cooling especially on off road...if it still happen then other people have explained good point in here (bigger rad, fan, ecc. )

Open up the very restrictive airbox. Open muffler. Letting these breath can help dissipate heat. Get the fueling adjusted to suit these mods. Lean = heat. Run a fan. I have the Spal on one of my bikes but i tried a cheapie off AliExpress which has worked really good. Also the switches are dirt cheap off there also.

I know some people are saying that upgrading your hose kit is a waste of money if your existing hoses are ok. Well I disagreed

I recently fitted a samco silicone hose kit on my fe450 and I’m having amazing results. Engine is running heaps smoother and keeping cooler.

Highly recommend..

Also try using water wetter I recently switched to it on fe450 with highpressure tusk 2.0 rad cap with temp gauge and my bike is running way cooler now 25 to 30 degrees cooler then when I had the regular coolent in , with the regular coolent bike would get hot very fast and rads would be really hot now with waterwetter I can hold my hand on engine after a ride I highly recommend it works better then engine ice IMO.

If you are doing slow tight hard endur o work, you need the radiator fins in tact as they truly real help flow the air in through the radiator, such is amassing in just how good them fins work.
