New 2011 FE 570 S here...love it. Runs like mad but...

Backfiring/popping every time I let off and come into a turn or let the engine brake on a downhill. I'm running the Euro Comp Map as per the Dealer I bought it from. I'm thinking it's the smog device but don't know exactly how to test that theory. I'd like to remove it but need some help on the steps. Have any of you done this yet? If so, I'd love to hear from you.

Any other ideas what could cause it?

Did you put the block off plate on the air induction?

Are you running the stock exhaust? A leak in the exhaust can cause popping on decel.

Where are you from, and what dealer installed the Euro Comp map? Most of the time once the comp map is installed the popping goes away.

Dale - 1) No, I haven't done anything to the induction. Not sure what / how but would like to try. I'm pretty capable in the shop but no expert so basically, I can follow instructions.

2) Yes, stock exhaust (but they did take out the little screen insert? Not sure what that is, new to these bikes)

3) California - Bought from Fator's in Redding due to the friend of a friend thing. I called them yesterday to ask what map they used, explained the situation and said I'd heard the European Comp Map might help. They said that's the one they used.

I'm just guessing here.........and don't mean sling any poop on the roses. However, I am doubtful the euro comp/ or closed course map actually took. That should have solved all the problems you are having.

If it is not inconvenient, I'd take it back and have them plug it in and if possible watch them when the reader shows what map is actually in the bike to make sure that the map you/they think is in there actually is. Your bike is under warranty, use it.

Check to see if Husaberg sells a "closed course competition" kit or something like that. This "technically" makes your bike off road legal only. This should eliminate the carbon canister, which according to the parts book looks like it get's it's vacuum from the cylinder head, via the crankcase breather that goes into the air box. So if the carbon canister gets full of gas, it will pull gas directly into the cylinder head=not good. I don't know if this is the gospel, but, according to the parts book that's the way it looks.

I wonder if the local KTM shop can read the settings or set new Maps? The dealer's shop is kinda far ( I knew this would be an issue when I bought it). I'll keep on looking until I figure this out. Going for a little back country ride now. Hope the popping isn't too bad...that bugs...

Thanks for the help Dale...

Hey Dale,

For what it's worth, I have the same bike. I put the FMF 4.1 pipe on it and sent the ECU to Fritz Kadlec"s shop
for re-mapping a couple of months ago. I haven't eliminated the smog crap yet. It still pops on deceleration.
It's not as bad as it was stock but its annoying. The bike definitely runs better, cold starting especially, but
the poping is the s*@$s. I did a proper 15 minute burn in with fans cooling the motor as you recommended
in earlier emails. Hummmmmm......

Have you tried blocking off the carbon canister?

LOL the ol' 15 min burn in trick. How come I am not surprised that didn't fix it?

I know that there was a popping issue on the 2010 570's with the "green" map, but, that was cured with the closed course map.

So the only thing left IMHO is the carbon canister, but, it draw's it's vacuum from the cylinder head, or at least that's what the parts book shows.

Have a look at the diagram and you will also see that there is a "T" fitting in the tank vent line on it's way to the CC.

There is also a switch on the CC which I assume controls a valve or senses vacuum. Unplugging this switch does not throw any fault codes.

If your CC is drawing vacuum from some other point besides the head please let me know, or if there is any other air induction system on the bike that the parts book does not show as I cannot find any.

In the 2009 parts book there is an air induction system that was used on the euro bikes in 2009, in addition to the 02 sensor, but, I don't see that any more.

Let me know what you find.

Dale

I don't quite follow your comment, 5 minute's or 15 minute's, what difference does it make as
long as we are trying to help each other out!

OK - Just got fed up...grabbed that air induction/smog device off the side with a channel lock and a rag, replaced it with the aluminum plug and took it for a test run...not a single POP! Problem solved, except for now I have a hose hanging loose and don't know if I should just yank it, plug it or what. Anyone been there, done that? What I can say is that the bike is awesome and without the popping I'm gonna rail it next time. I was __ssy footin' it into the turns cuz I didn't want to hear the gun shots! It's on now!

Ok, final post on this. The hose goes NOWHERE...it just has a little filter on it and it's tucked up under the tank...simply remove just like DirtRider said. Wish I did this on day one...my first three rides were buggin' with all the backfiring. Now it's just as it should be...a monster with awesome suspension. Thanks everyone!
