New Guy here,
Stumbled upon the site when searching for more info on the FE 450.
I test rode a 2010 390 and 450 briefly today and the 450 feels more snappy which is what I'm used to as I just came off a 2009 KTM 300 XC-W. I don't race but my best riding buddy says I'm a 450 guy. I hope he is right. It seems the 390 is real popular. Somebody try to convince me the 390 is the best.
The dealer is great. I'm very happy and once I make up my mind I'm running down there and giving them a deposit.
I can get a screamer of a deal on a 2010 or go for the 2011. I have read tests from Dirtbike and Dirtriderand it seems that the 2010 has some suspension issues. Sounds like the 2011 has it all worked out.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Great site!

You don't say where you are at or what kind of riding you want it for.

One issue is that if you are in the USA, the 2011 Fe/FS 570 is 50 state street legal, which can make a dig difference in some states (e.g., WA, OR, CA) if you want to get a plate and keep it. Before 2011 the 570s were not 50 state street legal and none of the 450s or 390s are or were.

This may not matter to you, but that is one of the big differences between 2010 and 2011 570s.

Yea I think the type of terrain you ride could play into your choice. Out here in CO the 450 fit the bill over the 390 for the added grunt.

Have not ridden the 390 but believe weight is close to the 450 and doubt the handling is much different. I've heard the 390 likes to be ridden a bit harder. Maybe coming off a 300 2 stroke you'll like to rev the 390.

As for 10 vs 11. I think the big difference is the 11's have the CC forks now.

I live in Vermont and ride very technical terrain. Rooty, rocky and even though our hills are small, they're very steep!
I would rather chug off the bottom of the rpm's and be able to have the power there when I need it.
I'm going for the 450
It's going to be a hard pill to swallow the cost of the 2011 with all the goodies, but I gotta do what I gotta do.
On the fence about a steering damper. My buddy says I go fast so I should have it just in case.
Hmmmm
Definitely doing the auto-clutch. Both bikes I rode yesterday had it and it is flat awesome!
Wondering if a cooling fan is a better option than the damper?

Buy a 2010 fx-450, they are selling for $6800 right now and you'll get a 'race kit" worth $1200. free, it has a fmf can, coupon for a factory connection revalve and other bits as well, with the money you save you can easily mod this bike to whatever your conditions are AND it already has the Closed cartridge fork !!!

The Berg w/ an auto clutch is killer! You'll love it. A great ad on.

450idy for the big climbs and elevation out here as well.

I also have a 300 2 stroke and notice the lack of power on the big nasty climbs vs. the Berg 450. the thing just keeps pulling to my amazement when i think she's gonna quit.....

Thanks!
im going to get the cooling fan too. might as well.
Now I just have to be patient till spring

I live in houston Tx, and want to know where can I get a 2010FX for $6800. No one around here(tx) is offering a deal like that!
