Yes I am that wierd snow guy and have my own set of issues!

Last week it was -20deg F. I fired up the 2010 FX450 and let it idle up to operating temp. Then two miles up the trail it died. Upon inspection I found the timing chain guides completely melted and totally wore away with debris all through the motor. The intake rocker arm shaft was the first thing to go dry and seized the rocker arm to the shaft.

I run Rotella synthetic 5W -40

Could have the extreme cold caused to much oil pressure on the tensioner and made this happen?

Some KTM / Berg riders local to me were doing winter enduro and found that their oil filters were distorted - sucked in or swollen? - can't remember which, it was as is appropriate to oil flow. Going to thinner oil stopped that - from whatever is recommended, 10w-40?, to 5w or 10w-30. Stopped the madness and hasn't causes other issues. These were RFS KTM motors iirc and probably pre-08 Bergs. (From memory these are recommended thinner oil than is done for the 70-degrees.)

(Sorry to hear about your bike!)
