Hi All,

After riding KTM`s for the last few year`s i fancy going back to Husaberg, the 2010 sure look well and the reports i`ve read on the site sound good.

Fuel consumption is`nt an issue on my KTM 250 exc-f, wondered what it was like on the Berg`s. I briefly went to Husqvarna last year and tried the 450 and 510 and both where terrible on fuel.

What sort of riding time will i get out of the 450\570?

Thanks, Brookester

As you can see from the linked post Brookster it can vary widely.

Recently when riding at high elevation, using small throttle openings as the trails were narrow and tight, I got about 45mpg or a little better. However out in the desert and racing, using a lot more throttle and riding in sand and hard pack it drops down to about 35mpg.

I have gone 72 miles out in the desert on a trail ride and had just a little fuel left. Up in the local mountains I have gone 65 with a little more fuel left. And I was keeping fuel range in mind.

My best guess would be that if you were in the desert and riding hard/racing, you can easily get 50 miles out of it without worrying. I rode the desert MC national hare and hound early in the year, 40+ mile loops and I had plenty of fuel. The thing is with this bike is that a lot times it looks like there isn't much fuel left but there is way more than you think.

Glad to see that you are returning to Husabergs! You will be pleasantly surprised!! Too bad you didn't make the demo rides at FR 3, you might already have one.

Thanks for that lads,

Now to 450 or 570?

Thinking 570, used to love the power of my FE 550

Then the 570 is for you. I love mine.

Hi Brookester,

Your thinking is correct!

I did peak District two months ago and got 70-80 miles to the tank.
The range gets better after a few hundred miles on the clock and even better when you have the map switch set to aggressive /full power mode.

I did a 4 hour enduro yesterday and was worried about running out before the 2 hour mark as it was woods sections with 60-80 mph straights inbetween.
As it was i had a good litre left at 2 hours which equates to a good 6 miles per litre, so i was pleased.

Great bike.

NKW570 has your mate with the KTM 250exc-f had a spin on yours? If so what does he think to it?

Thanks for the input

My Ole man has a 2010 570. We went to FR3 & afterwards rode all over the mtn. passes around Ouray & Silverton CO. We were doing the dual sport thing & were not going race pace of course but, we wanted to find out how far his 570 would go before running out of gas. He went 94.5 miles & still had a little bit of gas left. We were very surprised at the distance he was able to go on one tank.

Go with the 570 it is Awesome! :D Never lets you down. Super tractable power. I had a chance to ride all of them at FR3 & the power of the 570 is perfect. You have big bore power there when you twist the throttle to do some fast desert type riding & it can easily lug down & go tight technical single track slow too. I really love riding it. Wheelies whenever you want even going slow in high gears. :D It is my favorite bike my hubby has ever had. He would say so too but the 570 won't let him stop smiling long enough. :D

fuel range

Just like Elf said I did get 94.5 miles and it had not ran out of gas yet, reserve light came on at 74 miles, keep in mind this is a 2010 fe570 with the new software installed in my bike from Husaberg, Charles did it for me in Gunnison, he is one of the head wrench's there at Husaberg, and this was riding the pass's in CO. = Dual Sport

Again I was not heavy on the throttle and the map switch in #2 position, I weigh 200 in gear.
I knew some folks would not believe me so I snapped a pic of the odo

RE: fuel range

I'll have to try the new mapping. At best I think I would get 70 miles on a tank, especially now that I dropped down one tooth in front, unless I took it really easy and just putzed along at a very steady 55 MPH on a level road.

I've never drained the tank. I do get into the 70 mile range before my light comes on. I mainly use this bike for trail riding. The bike is a 010 570.

I have found at the higher elevations, gas mileage is a lot better than I get in Illinois at 600 foot. On my KTM 300 I would get 90 miles and still have gas left with a stock tank. With my Husaberg 450 I would be getting over 50mpg. Last Sunday I went trail riding and used better than half a tank in 26 miles. I believe Sethro was telling the truth.

I have it on very good authority via Husaberg Australia that the map in the 2010 570 is exactly the same as the 2009 570, no change, so there is still only the one map :(

Hmmm. I do have the switch and I have run it on all the different mappings. The rumor I have heard, and my dealer says it is true, that the non-aggressive mappings just ****** the timing and therefore you get less fuel mileage. Personally I haven't noticed any large difference - I still get no better than 35 MPG.

I noticed in another topic that Sethro has his header wrapped. I too have a wrap on my FE550e and it seems to run leaner. Just wondering if that may be why he gets better fuel range.

It probably does seem to run leaner as your carb and the rest of your engine is not getting as hot since the exhaust system is not radiating the heat onto and into your motor.

The EFI bikes, like Seth's with the competition map, us the outside air temp, MAP manifold absolute pressure, engine temp etc to set fuel injection mixture. The main reason Seth's bike got such good mileage is that he was dual sporting, basically, and not on the throttle that hard, so that's why you see the big mileage that he got.

I have seen wide variations in fuel consumption on my 09 570, all depending on the riding conditions. I have seen as high as 45 or 47, and as low as 28 when the bike was new. It's now pretty consistently 32 to 35 mpg in the desert under racing conditions.

Its amazing how much difference a rider makes also. A more experienced rider that is smooth tends to be more efficient than a new "throttle jockey". Just watch a C MX'r on a track!
