ANY ONE KNOW HOW TO TEST A VOLTAGE REG ON A 2009 FE450 ? I CANT START MY BIKE ,IT HAS NO SPARK ,IT SPUTTERD GOING IN TO A GAS STATION ,AFTER I FILLED UP IT WOULD NOT START, IT NEVER RAN OUT OF FUEL,AND AFTER LOOKING AT THE HARNESS I FOUND DIRTY CONNECTORS AND A OXIDIZED BLACK WIRE COMMING FROM THE VOLTAGE REG.IT IS A COMMON WIRE SPLICED WITH OTHERS THROUGH OUT THE HARNESS.

A similar thing happened to me it was a broken wire in the harness, near the shock, i took the harness out unravelled it, found the culprit and it was business as usual :D

YES I SEEN YOUR POST ,I PULLED THE HARNESS AND HAVE NOT FOUND A BREAK,I AM GOING TO LOOK A BIT MORE,,THANKS,,,,

Have you checked the battery?

If it has the original it is getting pretty long in the tooth about now as the YTZ7S batteries are only good for about 3 years.

Does the bike turn over? E.G. Does the starter motor turn the engine over?

Is the fuel pump running when you try to start it?

Are the battery terminals tight?

If you get the bike running, you should see about 14.5 volts at the battery positive to negative.

Yes the battery is new and tight,

It will turn over yet I can not hear the fuel pump, I might need to put my ear closer to the tank ,I have never heard it even when it ran, I will look tonight.

The FI light should come on when you first hit the starter and you will hear the pump running. If this is not the case you need to unplug the fuel pump and see if you are getting power at the fuel pump plug. If you are and the pump is not running, then either the wires have come loose from the pump, or the pump is gone.

If you can get some test leads up inside the pump plug on the tank, you should be able to read the windings in the pump motor with an OHM meter, if it reads open there then, again, either a wire has come off (that's what happened to me) or the motor winding is open.

If you read the motor winding, and have power at the plug, then your pump is probably seized.

I tested the fuel pump ,and its in good shape,Bike still has no spark , I dont hear the fuel pump nor does the FI light come on, Im thinking I hve no power to the ecu,Does anybody know the ecu pin out ?

Perhaps your main relay is not engaging. Check to see if you have 12V at the fuses when you hit the start button. If I remember correctly, one of the four fuses has power all the time, but the other three only get power when the relay engages.

Last time I had my tank off I accidently knocked the connector loose that goes from the stator to the regulator. It looked connected, but it was not. I had similar symptoms - it would turn over (since there is a separate relay for the starter motor), but no power to anything else. I think the stator directly powers the main relay.

Do you have the wiring single line? It's in the back of the repair manual. If not shoot me a pm with your email address and I will send you the single line diagram.

One of the Voltage Regulators functions is to turn the power on to the Power Relay.
It does by closing some contacts in the Voltage Regulator when the motor starts spinning and AC is generated in the Alternator.

Shorting out pins 5 and 6 in the XC1 connector bypasses the Voltage Regulator. The below diagram shows this.

There are 4 fuses in the Fuse Box.
Fuses 1, 3 and 4 get Power once the Power Relay is on.
Fuse 2 always has Power to it. It is the Fuel Pump Fuse. There is a separate Relay in the ECU that closes when the Fuel Pump needs to be on.

Used to be anytime one didn't have spark the first thing you did was to disconnect the kill switch.

hi can any one help
same problem as above
no fi light but turned over no problem
put link between 5 and 6 as stated ,bike now starts but stops after 5 secs aprox even with link wire out .
thanks
