I went to the annual demo day put on by the local Husky/GasGas/TM dealer this weekend. I reported on the TM last fall, and as before the Ohlins suspension was magic, and the bike made alot of fans. The GasGas ec300 was a dream in the tighter woods and had the riders wanting to try it, it also had the most wanting to ride it again. It's no secret that I am a GasGas 250/300 fan, and this bike did not disappoint. The big surprise to me was the Husky txc450, what an improved bike it is (not that it ever was a roach)! I had always felt that most of the 4T bikes were basically the same, and then there was the Hbg a notch or two above the rest. I gotta tell you that Husky did their homework and made a stable yet nimble bike that handles like a lighter bike. In all fairness, none of the other bikes were dialed in for me, but as it was, my Hbg much much easier to go fast on and was more nuetral handling. The 'berg allows me to go over jumps w/o any funky handling, and allows me to go thru a turn in most any position (standing, crouching, setting near the gascap, or even way to far back) with little penalty. Rest assured if you are thinking about a 2008 Hbg, it is still the best 4T on the market (IMHO), and probably the best choice for fast offroad. The GasGas 300 on the other hand could make a guy like me think about straying (at least for riding tight woods).

08 Berg's

Agreed.....08 Berg handle awesome!!!!!

Had my 3rd outing on the weekend, and love it. Wouldnt pull up long steep hills in third that well, but raise the needle one clip, and problem solved. Just keep going and going.

I thought I was a gonna a few times, but the Berg somehow let me get away with things I shouldn't have. One incident over a mound into a steep decent into a creek, and I forgot to keep left, and landed into massive wash out, with foot deep verticle edges, and somehow motored thru, opped out the other side, in deisbelief I was still on the bike.

Handle better than my well set up KTM with triple clamps, full revalve and springs, ect, and my 08 berg550fe is out of the box, just set sag ect and that is it so far. Will go heavier springs eventually, but best out of crate suspension I have ever ridden.

That is 2 for the 08 bergs so far, any other with thier tales of the newer bergs!!!

RE: Re: 08 Berg

So other then the graphics what were the changes from the '07 to the '08?

I should have clarified, my Hbg is a 2006 model. Hbg has had the handling advantage forever, my point was that Husky is making an effort to make their 4T less 4T like (something they haven't done since Cagiva took over and replaced the original "510" motor with the bigger block design. The current Hbg design (even though some folks feel it is getting "long in the tooth") is still a great bike, and could be made for a few more years, but based upon all the self promotion done by KTM/Hbg, they have some very high hopes for the new bike (presumably to make a clear statement to BMW that they won't take this (BMW entering the dirt market and buying Husky) lying down).
