in todays suck you know what economy?

low miles, cherry, no mods. (350ish miles)

I know these bikes rock, and are the best of the old design reliability and fun.

Just wanted to check with the experts.

5K is probably what it's worth. If your the seller consider anything over 4K. If your buying, anything under 4K would be a smoking deal.

Thanx Berger...

Not mine, I found it on a dirt bike search.
need/want a fully street legal bike.

still on the MSO from the dealer
took it home drove it on and around his farm.

its not even really broke in.

Nice.....but bummer on the MSO. Nothing like paying taxes on 8 grand to get a title. That's assuming he didn't pay sales tax when he bought it. That would be a large consideration for me.

I may have seen that bike for sale last year when I was looking.
The rode it on the farm part sounds familiar.

Old thread but a very good condition, 20hr 08 FE550 for $3k good?

Intend to make it an SM.

a reality bite. You're selling a bike that is unknown to the "un-initiated" built by a company that no longer exists and is no longer supported by its parent company. Furthermore, its reputation is hampered by rumors of un-reliability (which are only sorta true) and parts unavailability (which is gettting more and more true every day). So, what's it worth?

As a rider, more than you can possibly sell it for. Nothing on the current market comes close (IMHO). SXV? Yeah, that's reliable {{sarcasm}}. DRZ, all the mods in the world wont bring it to a stock 550 berg. So, what's it worth? Depends on your buyer. Nothing to the un-initiated . . . ie, the majority of the purchasing world.

To us? Much more . . . but then, we already have bergs now don't we. Sadly, you're likely going to have to hold out awhile to find a buyer who knows your bikes real value if you want to get what it is worth.

Oh, damned reading comprehension skills failure. Hate it when i drink and post. If you are trying to get a bargain, then raise those points in negotiation. However, seller is likely to hold out for a better deal. The KBB value is way lower than I've ever seen a Berg in good condition sell for. Berger is right, well taken care of low hour 550 is around 4500-5500 if the owner knows what he wants.

i'd buy the heck out of it!

'07-'08 are said to be the most reliable 550 years

enormous bonermobile / exotic rarity factor aside, that looks like a good price for a good bike - a good acquisition - hard to go wrong with low hrs on a reliable year

CHANGE THE OIL IMMEDIATELY - I advise you do not ride it before, ask me how i know :/

and give it a good once-over in general

(fwiw ... I am in a small and odd market and hard to gauge prices between here and there ... bu from reading the thumpertalk DRZ forum then $3000 seems like a good price for a nice DRZ, and then we're talking about a bike with some miles on it - and the drz is the lesser bike to begin with!)

Hey Tourist,
Can you ride your's with a steeringlock:D
But i understand now how i wake up every morning, it's like a magic wand :D

Just to keep a piece of mind for all... I have bought mie 2008 FE550 with 53 hours on it for 4500 in Canada. It has a bunch of goodies on it too... They still go from 3500 to 5000 here in Alberta

I would buy it in a heart beat. I don't have 3k but you could bet I would come up with it.

Look at the post date when Berger said "anything above 4K". It was February of 2012! He was exactly right, almost three years ago.

I can't see a 2008 and down 550 going for 4.5-5.5K even if it was on Fantasy Island. The new ones barely bring that.

How do the 2008 450s stack up next to the 550s in reliability and fun-factor?

Pretty darn reliable (for a high strung race bike) and good performance for a 4 stroke 450. No, it doesn't pull like the 550 or the venerable 650, but it's easier on the cam chain and my friend only had to do the dual valve replacement mod to make his "almost" dead reliable. Yes, you still have to do the frequent oil change and easy valve adjustments. I'd love to have one!
