I have just got back on a berg after a brief 2 smoke stint the first thing i have noticed is the lack of being able to get the power down in slippy conditions like hill climbing and off cambers compared to a 2 smoke the power seems to aggressive and wheel spin is innevitable.I am looking at tweeking the ignition to give a more user friendly ride in the slop and have come across this www.hmiis.com what do you think. Also my 2 smoke was a gas gas with dual map ignition it was fitted with a kokusan ignition and high low swith all you had to do is fit the switch to the two wires out of the cdi unit could this be done to the berg although there is no extra wires but the pins are in the unit.

thanks darren

I thought they were already well weighted if not what are available and where from in the UK,and how did that get blue in my post, some things in life are too hard.

One less teeth in the front helped greatly and improved my hillclimbing abilities, although Berger will testify progress still can be made in this area.

well first of all i could say jet it poorly which would cost you nothing, then i could say give yourself more time on the machine and try more sag so that it sinks at the back when you open the throttle.

2 smokes tend to have mushy suspension and so sometimes we ignore things like tyre pressures and stuff.

if you don't like it change the CC of the bike!

that's why i still ride a 400!

there are lots of ways to soften the power and there may well be a special wire that can help with the ignition advance.

flywheel weight? not really for me. suspension..

Thanks berger i had a look through and they sell complete flywheels for the ktm do you know if the stock ktm flywheel is the same part number as a berg flywheel if so they may fit.Taffy i have had around 6 bergs 400 to 501 and the best all round bike was my 02 400 but my favourite was the 03 501 it would climb the side of a house after the 03 501 i bought the last 04 501 still a good bike but then i got a 05 450 and that was when it went downhill for me when the power seemed to be aimed at a more aggressive rider but i do regret getting rid of that 400.

Thanks darren

i rode a 470 in a 12-hour enduro last june at waddon in bucks. it was awful compared to mine but the power was awesome. all my tuning hasn't made my 400 do what that thing could do in third gear.

however i personally found that i had to respect it too much whereas the 400 i just thrash it everywhere!

i do believe that that 501 was good. bobzilla has often reminisced about that and the fact that he can't see his winkle anymore (the good ol days hey!). but i believe him. a bike needs to be usable.

what does it tell you when a manufacturer drops the two best CC bikes from their range?

the 400 and the 501!!! supermototeam are you reading this!

that 450 needs a completely different bore and stroke. 100 x 57 is silly.

if you weren't aware, i'm sittong on a +2mm KTM piston for the 450, a woessner. it's 97mm and will take my 400 out to 450!

i'll put it in when i'm good and ready! been sitting here 5-months now!

make your own bike why donchya!

Taffy in wet muddy conditions i tend to run my suspension a bit stiffer and my tyre pressures around 9 psi what have you found that helps in the way of set up.When i use mooses i put a smaller moose in a bigger tyre for the same.
Thanks darren

in the wet i loosen off the rear coil to get some yaw going when accelerating. i drop mine to 8 pounds and 5 in the rain.

otherwise, i'm usually so phuqin wet and miserable i don't won't to leave the car...

regards

Taffy
