info requested,
I have oppertunity to purchase 2004 FE 650E/ approx 15 hrs, I have checked book price but need info on retail prices & reliability of this bike, Please help.

Great bike, very reliable. A good find if the hours are correct.
Price is what the market will bare. What's the asking price?

Sir's, Thanks for the info. The 650 in question has an aftermarket skid plate, 3 carbon fiber guards, front brake & 2 on the exaust pipe, & a .8 gallon reserve fuel tank that sits between the seat & frame. asking price is 4900?? I have seen the bike, it appears to be in very nice condition, however it was difficult to start, is this a routine issue with 650's??
I want to be fair to the seller as well as myself, from personal research price seems abit high, all opinions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

The price does seem a bit high to me also. Perhaps you can bring in down about a thou.

How do you mean was it hard to start? E-start or kick?

Husabutt, Thanks again for the help!!
When I arrived to see the bike it was plugged into a trickle charger, I was told it needed to be left on due to the bike not being run everyday, attempts to start using e-start drained the batt., an additional boost charger was applied and still using e-start cranked 12-15 times before firing, I was told that the bike has an aftermarket Gel Batt(very expensive??) so I wonder why if it has such a good batt. it could not start it?? also, when quickly rolling the throttle handle the bike would dround out/not rev, was told this was due to it being cold. The bike was trailered with misc. so the kick could not be used or ran very long. I realise that no diffinative answers are available, just that I would LOVE to have a Berg, so educated opinions are of great value, thanks again.

I would figure the cost of a new battery in right off the bat. The standard Husaberg battery, YTZ7S is an AGM type(absorbed glass mat) and works great. Gels are rarely used in bikes as they are better suited for deep cycle applications. The battery is probably suspect.

On most four strokes you can't just wick the throttle open in neutral as it will usually cough and die.

So far there is nothing out of the ordinary that would scare me from purchasing the bike except for the price.

A valve adjustment may help with starting. As the valves tighten it becomes harder to start. With only 15 hours the valves may have never seen an adjustment.

The 04 was the first year for the Kukosan ignition and the 550/650 received a larger starter than on the 01-03 models.

You might plan on using the kick starter when cold as well. The starter for years was referred to as a "re starter".
Keeping the bike on a quality trickel charger when not in use is a good idea. Optimate makes a good one.

I don't know if this helps, but I bought my 04 new for $5200.

I guess another question would be, what kind of riding to you intend to do? The 650's will do it all, but tend to run hot in the tight single track.

Berger & Hussabut,
Gentlemen, Thank you!!
As I continue to research the 650 (& new 570), I am torn which to purchase. Again, reseach leads me to believe both these bikes average approx. 25 MPG? Is this true??
My riding would be, mild. no racing, just mountain trails, work commute.

Easy riding 25-35mpg, closer to 35 mpg for the most part. Properly jetted that is.

did the kickstart feel harsh on the foot at all? if so I suspect the auto decomp has become weak on the camshaft.

this is a relatively inexpensive job to do.

check for smoke and rattles. ask for receipts or proof of work done.

regards

Taffy
