The bike has always been a bit temperamental, today I kicked it over to get it started and found there was no compression. Tried to adjust the valves, both exhaust valves spot on and one intake valve good but the other side adjustment screw will go through the locknut and keep going. Any ideas before I take it apart?

Much appreciate the help everyone!

Cheers, Rich

Take the top cover off, it's easy for inspection. I recently lost the swivel cap on the valve adjustment bolt on my 2000 FC 501. It came off and broke exhaust rocker arm. I know my head is slightly different than your 03

The pictures show the damage, I still need to take the head off but does anyone have any advice on the rocker. Not sure whether to replace it or not.

Thanks for the advice

It is, yet to see if the valve hit the piston but I'm thinking about getting the dual valve spring kit. If you can see on the picture of the intake rocker there is a chunk of it missing from hitting the valve retainer, probably about 2mm missing at the thickest part

you appear, from here anyway, to have lost the collets that hold the valve in. this can be because the valve has snapped in half. that is why the cap was rubbuing against the underside of the rocker arm...because it was being driven up by the spring.

you appear also to have the DVSK BUT only the outter spring which would cause percussion problems when running and typically, the head to fall off the valve.... well, well, well, what do you know!

look for the two cotters/collets/keepers, get the head off and the valve out.

next time, lighten up your own photos first so we can SEE them!

cheers

Taffy
