I have a 2001 FE501 and the stator has gone south. There is a 2001 FC550 engine for sale that has a stator.

Will this stator work in my FE501 and also are many of the other parts interchangeable?

There is no lightcoils on the FC stator (normally).
The gearbox is 4 speed on a FC550 (normally)

i have a stator from an '02 650 with lighting coils i would sell. where are you? give me a pm (if you can)
fill in your location and put your bike year/model in your signature.

I bought the stator from the '01 FC550. Figured I couldn't go wrong for $50 even if I use it for a core.

I'm gonna give it a shot and if it won't work I'll PM you about your stator.

I'm in Idaho FYI.
 
if the one from the fc works fine, great! if not get yours rewound by sparks--only way to go. with the rewound one your bike will probably start on the button. my 02-501fe with sparks rewind starts hot or cold any time on the button. an fcr carb even makes it better. good luck.
 
The FC stator appears to be identical (connectors were different but nothing difficult to modify). It tested at exactly on specs of 168 and 3000 ohms.

I would give a how well it worked report but after installing and the 'Berg still didn't fire up....I discovered the hot wire from the ignition switch had corroded off. Now I'm awaiting a new ignition switch.
 
the important one is the reading between the red and the black and that should be 2.85 plus. as you have a reading of 3000? i can only think that you are talking of this reading and 3.0? right?

Well I beleive it was 3.0k ohms..........but it is possible I was reading ohms and not k ohms. Now I want to go back and check again.
 
had a customer in yesterday with a mint/new stator fitted. the reading was 2.75 and i would have put money on it being useless but it was fine. It was the coil that was gone... FC501 2000.

so occasionally a low number still works...
