Great to read through this forum - keeps potential purchasers like me calmer on the prospect of getting obscure yet amazing bikes.
I'm a first timer into these bikes, ever since wrenching on my friends sxv 550 I've searched the Internet for a bike for sale (which while not the same) catches me the same way that sxv did.
I'm getting a bit handier with tools plus in my circle of friends we just created a motorcycle repair man cave.
Due to my personal situation I can't throw $4500 on a new bike, I was a bit butt hurt I missed out on purchasing the fs650 in the bay (SF) for $3500, but I've just come across a 2001 fe650e.
Bike is complete but does not run - fork seals need to be replaced. seller says it needs the stator rewinding plus a new auto decomp. Both parts he has and will sell with the bike. It only has one photo on the add. The thing that has me is - he's offering it for $1000.
It's not plated, has no records of any kind on the maintenance schedule and seller has no knowledge of the service history. Seller has no time to work on it. I'm willing to make the 6 hour drive to go and look at it, my question is, even for only $1000, is this just stupid to even consider? Are there any key questions I should ask? I asked about the hours on the engine and got no response - did that year even come with an hour meter?
