Im having trouble with this bike it seems that it needs more wrenching in hours than i ever get out of it riding. Are these bikes just throw away bikes from the early 2000's? Cant seem to justify the expenses of fixing for the short time riding it. What does everyone else do with these?

every bike is different, but the '01s were the most troublesome. once sorted, they aren't much different than any other race bike.

If you compare your bike to other 400's of that time you will realise that the berg is much more performance oriented than the rest. Like anything, the more performance you have, the more maintaining it requires. Of course it helps when all the little things are sorted but is it really that hard to change the oil and filters a little more often than the others?

Well what ive been havivng problems with is reliability. It seems ok for a couple rides then it wont start at all. It has a new stator with strong spark a carb clean done. runs for 20 min thewn shuts off. Besides being a pig to start Ive been hesitant to send money over seas cause last time I did my card was ran without permission. Does anyone know the correct jetting for a bike at 3000ft. ? This bike reminds me alot of my LC4 but its reliability sucks. I cant trust riding it to work. My 1983 magna is bulletproof compared to this. I really want to keep this bike but I need to get it to a point where we have a trusted partneship you know.

if your "new" stator is a rewind, it's unlikely it's a problem. the coil /cdi can be bad, but they usually just die, not live / die.
if you have the dellorto carb, it's usually not a case of misjetting as much as it's worn out needle and needle jet. all systems need to be right (or at least close) for it to be reliable. in my opinion, if you are kickstarting this, the 400 is the hardest to start because of the short stroke making piston position vague. if it's estart, you have the whole "'01-02 estart problem" which has been addressed on here ad infinitum.
and finally, the idea of trying to get a 13 yr old race bike to be a reliable street bike like a ujm seems a bit optimistic.

Did you have to send all your stuff off to taffy?

I doubt if any of the above mentioned will have the stuff for sale or the helpful advice that I can offer you. you can also pay by pay-pal indeed my webshop can only take pay-pal for the next week or so and even then you'll be able to make a choice between that and a card.

I also offer you automatic upgrade to parts that will fit from later 11-digit KTM parts.

so please look up the H-number parts you want and try them as well as asking me for the upgraded stuff.

regards

Taffy
